Thanks for that. It's a Core System so it doesn't have a Hard Drive. Set it up without and the set-up process ran fine. It was after I switched it off, put the Hard Drive (which I'd bought seperately) back on and switched it back on again that the trouble started. It told me to run the update, which I did and then it froze on boot, again. Took off the Hard Drive but it still won't go to dashboard. Starting to wonder if the update corrupted when I downloaded it and has messed up with the 360s' internal firmware.

    Any thoughts??

Awesome got my Xbox 360 back today WITH NO POWER SUPPLY. Absolute wankers, I've only got the grey kettle lead which plugs into it.

      on the phone again... sigh

Got my 3rd Core system in 2 days today. Also exchanged my HDD just to be on the safe side. Got home, set it up, switched it on (without plugging it into the broadband) and it worked fine.

Switched it off, plugged in the new HDD (again still not connected to broadband) no problems.

Plugged in the broadband, hit recover Gamertag and up pops message "we need to add info to your console to connect to Live, do you wish to continue?" Hit yes, downloaded some stuff, no issue, machine still working fine.

Message pops up with "new update available do you want to download? (as if I have a choice).

        Patch downloaded, machine restarts aaaaand...NOTHING.

Freezes at the exact same place...WTF!!?

Currently I'm on hold with MS waiting to talk to someone and have been for the past 25 minutes!! It has to be a problem with Core systems and the update. That's the only thing I can think of but how could that be?

Not amused in the slightest especially as it seems I returned a perfectly good HDD with all my saves and Marketplace downloads on it!!

To be honest I realy don't want another one after this, it's really knocked my confidence in M$.

Right, just got off the phone with Microsoft and the guy that I spoke to told me that there have been problems with the update and that people should try to avoid updating until after December 4th...oooookay. How am I supposed to know that when nothing has been posted ANYWHERE!? So, now I've got another evening of no 360 gaming.

Lucky I bought Yoshi Island DS at the same time as Viva P! I'm seriously thinking of returning the 360 and getting credit to pay for my Wii. Ho hum.

The best bit was when he said "I can set-up a repair order for you and we'll try to get it back to you before Xmas". I laughed so hard I almost fell off of my chair.

I've had my 360 for exactly a month now, its..tempremental. Sometimes I turn it on and it powers up no bother, sometimes I power it up and nothing happens, sometimes i power it up and i get a red light and 'E74'. I've contacted microsoft via email about it,they told me i would have to phone them to give them more details.Even if i do phone tech support and have to go through the whole 'unplug everything and start again' since the error message especially is an occasional problem rather than a constant one.

Unplugging and starting over clears out the red light problem for a short period, but it still comes back x_x.

I've looked up the error code online, i know its an AV thing, but since the error is so damn random I cant really test it with a new cable, or the one in the box since im using a VGA D:

Same thing has happened to me. Launch unit worked fine. Booted it up and it said it needed to patch the console. Of course I said yes, it restrated and viola. It freezes at the xbox logo screen.

Thing is, I've been looking forward to toda as it's the start of my Xmas holidays and I really wanted to get stuck into GoW again and play my new copy of Viva Pinata.

Just out of interest, what connection are you using mate? I've managed to get mine working through composite and component, but component has no sound (long story) so if i want to play I have to resort to composite

I'm having a really weird issue.

Went to use the Vision camera for some Vegas face mapping for the first time today since the update and it won't work when plugged into the rear USB port.

It works in the front ones. Other USB peripherals work in the rear one. But plug the camera into the rear USB and it just will not work

                    I don't think they do.

By the way, anyone ever had any difficulty in getting their remote to work? I've just laid my hands on the HD DVD pack (worthy purchase if you ask me), but the remote simply won't work. The batteries are ok - all the buttons light up every time I press them. My wireless controllers work fine.
                    Any idea?

I dont know if its because im not using the official 360 remote, but i find i have to point my PC media centre remote DIRECTLY at the 360 for it to work, I was convinced for ages that the two werent even compatible until i tried that. A bit obvious, but i sure didnt think of it at the time

There is an option in the dashboard that lets you choose which remote you have, maybe that has something to do with it?

Also, the clear stuff isn't stuck over the IR port still is it?

I've got both remotes and yesterday the one that came with the drive was working fine so it shouldn't be that !

                            And now... it's working again.

All USB function to the rear port stopped working so as a long shot I unplugged all the leads (including the power) and set it up again. Port now works like there was nothing wrong

This happened to me too, with the wifi adapter. I did not even have to unplug all the leads to get everything back to normal; I just switched the console off then back on. The 360 really is that unreliable.

As for my remote, I did take the clear stuff off the IR port before trying it out. I also checked the dashboard and tinkered with the options - with no success.
Now I'm thinking my console might be faulty. Again. After all, it would only the third time I'd have to get in touch with the repair centre to have my console repaired.
Such a great gaming machine with so many technical let-downs.

I was using VGA. I suddenly had an epiphany and changed the AV lead to the Composite one that comes with the Core and it worked. Typical. As Microsoft couldn't (or wouldn't conspiracy fans) tell me that there was a problem with the update I thought I'd play it safe and I got everything changed over after the second time (machine & HDD).

It seems that Microsoft want to punish those of us who use VGA cables and now I have to start all of my games over from scratch. I can honestly say I've never had so much trouble with a console before. Sony machines, fine. Nintendo machines, do they ever go wrong (mine don't). Microsoft consoles. Urgh. I'm seriously considering getting shot of the whole lot and buying a huuuuge amount of Wii and DS stuff on Friday!!

                                Wii!! That makes me happy

Oh yeah, and I'm also having problems with it coming up saying "to play this disc please put it in an Xbox 360 Console". Honestly what the hell do they think I'm putting it in??
