Can't answer those questions, but if you want more info, Xbox-scene.com forums are probably the best place to ask.

Apparently if the power supply rating on the label on the box states 175w then it's a 65nm unit - I don't know of a guaranteed way to get a BenQ drive though.

It was inevitable: finally got a red light. One to be specific, bottom right. E64, bollocksed DVD drive.

This 3-year warranty: does that mean I can take it back to the shop or do I have to send it off to MS?

It'll be whoever you paid for your three year warranty which is usually the shop you bought it from!

If you mean the free Microsoft warranty, that doesn't cover DVD drives...

So I can drop it back to GameStation and give them the old "not fit for purpose" spiel and they'll do a straight swap? Sounds too good to be true!

You'll be lucky if it's outside the initial 12 months. The only other thing you can try is to make it 3RLOD on purpose, and hope MS fix the DVDROM as well as the motherboard when you send it back. Worked for me.

So what the smeg am I supposed to do? The unit is useless and MS won't fix it?

Nobody is required to repair it after the end of the 12 months unless you have taken out a longer warranty, but as anephric said you may get lucky if you fake it.

I just assumed that the warranties being extended to three years would cover the whole shebang.

Anyone know where to buy replacement drives? Guess I'll have to fix the piece of crap myself!

Nah, don't do that, you'll be screwed when it does finally RROD.

I suggest you follow anephric's advice and deploy the Blanket of Justice...

As previously mentioned in this thread, mine wasn't even consistently red-ringing (after being heat-deathed with electric fans and a towel)- I just absolutely INSISTED it was to MS customer service.

Replacing the DVDROM is also a pain in the ass - drives are no problem to obtain but you have to copy the firmware key over from your old drive for it to be able to load 360 games. otherwise it'll only load movie DVDs.

It seems to have fixed itself for now. How nice of it!

Mine's just started giving me 2 red lights and turning itself off. I know this means it's over heating but apart from playing video more than games I've not been using it for longer periods of time than I used to.

Does this mean it's on it's way out and I should expect 3 lights soon?

Sad to say, but yep - it's prolly on its way out. As you've said, the 2 rl's mean overheating, and if this is the case its only time before the overheating causes the mobo to warp away from the GPU/CPU causing a 'cold' solder joint and the 3lod's....sorry

You'd get the most out of it before this happens by keeping it well ventilated (although you probably do anyway).

Bugger my console has started to freeze at random over the last couple of weeks and this morning I got the 2 red leds. So the end is near for mine then?
I was looking forward to playing REZ, I bet the sodding thing gives up the ghost the day before release!

Just looked at the poll 33.33% of people are on their second machine!
