My brothers 360 died at christmas and I think he's scared of it happening again when it get's fixed. So whats the chances of it breaking again after it's been fixed?

Also I might be getting my first 360 soon but I only have a CRT tv so can I use any of the cable's that come with it or do I need to get an rgb?

Also if I need an rgb plz recomend me the best and where to get it.

    -thanks

the lead that comes with the console can do SD as well as HDTV - look for the little switch on the plug that goes into the back of the console.

And does it plug into my scart on tv and give an rgb picture?

I was looking forward to playing REZ, I bet the sodding thing gives up the ghost the day before release!

Just looked at the poll 33.33% of people are on their second machine!
Aye - its a factoid that your 360 borks 24 hours before the release of a much anticipated game, normally when you've just bought it on live/ordered it prerelease...

They don't get "fixed", I don' think. They get replaced with reconditioned machines.

              Fantastic
Bit of info from someone who claims to have been part of the 360 project from the start.
              Shocking stuff http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/d...ves/129866.asp
I`ve decided when my 360 does die I`m going to beat the **** out of it as the little bastard has had me hanging on the edge of my seat expecting it to die for the last year with its random lock ups and paddys. (wont die now - ssshhh dont tell it)

Not always, a friend of mine sent his back and he noted the serial number down, exactly the same machine came back, incidentally not fixed and still with the same bloody problem.

Mine was replaced though. Perhaps it depends on the fault?

Yeah, mine was the same machine back (all XBLA games workoffline and a small black mark on the front of the machine is still present) and repaired and has worked flawlessly (touch wood) for a few months now.

You'd get the most out of it before this happens by keeping it well ventilated (although you probably do anyway).
Well it's never been inside a cabinet, only ontop, next to a door. I could improve it by not having it next to the TV the other side but other than hanging it next to an open window there's not much more I could do

As long as it dies by 3 red lights then at least I can get it replaced.

They'll either fix your original machine (swap out mobo), give you a random reconditioned one, or a brand spanky new one. It completely depends on their volume of units to be repaired and how fubared your console is.

                        New problem0r!!11!

Now I'm playing something which doesn't require the damn DVD drive (the DMC4 trial) it's started locking up at random! What causes that, then? The air coming out of the unit is cool so it's hardly overheating.

Try clearing the HD cache - this may be the problem.
Just an observation, but it's not always good that the fans are expelling cooler air - it can mean they're not moving the hot air from the GPU (although in your case I'm sure its nowt to worry about ).

I have tried clearing the cache. Will see how it goes. I am not optimistic.

                            Thanks anyway

Bitter sweet irony - I've just had another of me 360's 3lod....bugger - looks like another x-clamp replacement job tommorrow.......
Interestingly, this one was a repair from MS - it came back with a battered inner metal case, I've just removed the x-clamps and found that whoever put it back together again decided not to put spring washers on the feet of the clamps, thusly when the heatsinks/m'board expanded during play it would've made the sinks be able to move away from the chip die....shoddy workmanship MS
