Seems to be life in my 360 yet - home last night popped it on and the same old "disk not recognised" story. Popped off the HDD no joy, but while that was off and the disk in the drive was trying to spool up, I gave the machine a "s1mmy slap" and it jumped straight back to life.
For any with drive read errors wanting to give the s1mmy slap a try : Pop off the HDD - machine on - disk in - listen for it spooling up and at this moment slap it hard where the HDD should be while shouting "F*cking Junk" The combination of the slap and magic words should get it working again
Now off to Game to get this thing traded before even the Slap don't work !

I rarely turn it on now just in case it dies. I won't risk it with anythig other that the best games that I feel I must play but can't play on other machines.
I know it's old news but it's such a shame as I loved my original XBox and had it since launch until I traded it for a 360 at launch without any problems at all.
It's only the 360 and Dreamcast that I've ever had problems with on the hardware side, every single console I've had apart from those has lasted from launch until I've decided I didn't want it any more which was usually at least five years or so later.
If they do get around to producing another XBox then it will probably be the first console that I've wait a year or so to buy due to not feeling confident about the build quality.

I had awful problems with HL2 yesterday. The disc would make a horrible grinding noise then the drive would die, partway through loading up any game (ie, Ep.2, Portal etc..). It would be frozen then 'til I switched it off. When it finally loaded, I had missing textures, flashing lights, visible vectors, the works.

Quick, you should get and patent that ASAP.

Saying that I hope the Elite I'm planning to trade my current machine in for will be my last 360 for a while !

Anybody here had an Elite die on them yet? I'm asking as I don't want my Elite dying when I get home and try Mass Effect as it seems to be the better games which kill the 360s off!
It survived Halo 3 & The Orange Box without a stutter but I don't want to push my luck!

Info on identifying a 65nm falcon 360 http://www.anandtech.com/gadgets/sho...spx?i=3152&p=3
Team FDOU and Lot's 738 + on the box label !
Some on the AV forums have been reporting picking up Lot 740 + from Game over the last few days and confirming they are falcons.
No quieter by the sound of it, but hopefully more reliable !
Soz if this is old news !Last edited by Simmy; 23-11-2007, 16:11.
