    Well, just fixed another 360 - and yet again MS hadn't installed spring washers on both heatsinks - you could move the 'sinks when they still had the original x-clamps on...shoddy workmanship MS!

    Seems that the spring washers aren't present mainly on consoles built between Dec '05 and June '06, not that this is the primary cause of the 3lod but it contributes.....

      Hi guys, I need some help please. I had a faulty console with Currys replaced with this one, which I've had about 6 months.

      I've been having loads of disc read errors on my 360 so I phoned Currys to tell them, and one of the tech guys said take it into the store for a replacement. When I got instore some stupid fat bitch was telling me to ring MS. I said that I'd like it exchanged by Currys and she told me "It's not faulty enough" and that all Currys had to do was to make sure that I had MS contact number.

      Surely that can't be correct?!

              I was in GAME yesterday and actually heard the salesperson state quite openly to a guy who was buying a XB360 that 1 in 3 had problems that required return for repair. His jaw dropped but he seemed happier when told the warranty covers it for 3 years.

              It's still shocking that stores are knowingly selling such unreliable goods and perhaps more shocking that customers are still buying without more complaint.

                That's actually a very good point - can shops legally sell something they know have such a high failure rate, regardless of warranty and the "official" MS failure rate?

                    1 in 3 - it really is quite a ludicrous situation and yet the mainstream (and specialist...) press really haven't picked up on it like they ought to. Can you imagine if all PCs, iPods or LCD/Plasma TVs had a 1 in 3 failure rate (or whatever the real figure actually is)? There would be uproar.

                    I think Microsoft have partly got away with it because of their extended warranty (thus acknowledging the problem) and partly because they have the best line-up of games and online service. I've had two 360s RROD on me and yet I still have one running in my room - frankly, I don't think I could manage without it!

                      My xbox has not gone wrong yet touch wood....apart from the scart cable problem

                      but i have had more crashes on the xbox 360 then all other consoles i have owned combined

                          Roight - does it work at all if you wiggle the av cable? Check the av port on the 360 for dirt/breaks - if all that doesn't work, get the 360 sent back to MS - in all likelihood the scaler chip inside the 360 is knackered

                                My 2nd 360 RROD'ed back at the beginning of November - I went out and bought an Elite while I waited for my borked one to be repaired by Microsoft (my ample government salary keeping me in a life of luxury!) and I ordered a HDD transfer cable.

                                Fast forward 4 months to today and what's waiting for me in the post this morning...? My HDD transfer cable! 4 months!! Good job my cousin already had one!

                                Microsoft - I tip my flat cap to you.
