Sorry to interrupt the flow of the thread but that's the one I bought. I'm interested to hear there's another.

BOT: Five of that list featured in the year 2000 Top 100 (I recently found that Edge issue and have been having a re-read); six if you widen the scope of No.4.

I don't think that's indicative of the quality post-2000. I think it's indicative of a heavy Japanese bias in the top ten. I don't think many would argue that the Japanese industry hasn't been weakening steadily for a good five or so years now. Then again, perhaps they would. It's a can of worms.

Here's the Edge Year 2000 list for anybody who is interested:

        1. LOZ: Ocarina of Time
        2. Super Mario 64
        3. Goldeneye
        4. Tetris
        5. Gran Turismo 2
        6. Quake II
        7. LOZ: A Link to the Past
        8. SFII: Turbo
        9. Half-Life
        10. Super Mario World

        This year's No.10 was No.14 back in 2000.

TBH in these sort of polls I always the games outside the Top 10 more interesting.

5 and 6 of that lists are no way bona-fide classics. I think people tend to just vote for anything within recent memory that they liked TBH.

I think it's also indicative of Edge's fondness (at least prior to Motty's return) of 'structured' gameplay. Aside from number 9, every game is a fairly closed game with a strong narrative. There are no games like Civilisation or Oblivion, or even no racing or fighting games.

I think that list is better if you ask me.

Resident Evil 4 sitting at number two? Madness.

              Where is FFVII for start?

Oblivion is in the top 20 I believe, Civ 4 is in the top 50 and there are loads of Racing games. PGR2, Outrun 2006, Gran Turismo 4, GTR 2 and Mario Kart.

I'm quite disapointed that no Sonic is represented.

Stop hankering after bloody Final Fantasy! It's in the top 100 for crying out loud!

I think it's worth pointing out that this is a collection of Edge readers top 100, not Edge's own top 100 similar to the one they did in 2000.

It makes the ludicrous inclusion of game No.2 somewhat more understandable, at least

To be fair, Edge's readers are best to ask for a fair top 100 than any other games magazine ever will. Espically Famitsu!

And to even doubt the 2nd's inclusion as one of the best is insane!

So true. RE4 is great no doubt about that but its hardly the almighty that some people make it out to be.

Is it? Surprised to see number 8 so high up, especially as it's only been available in the UK for a few months.

I don't remember Edge asking for people to vote on the games. I know they asked for input and feedback, but not a specific vote.

                          Yeah.
They were collecting entries for this about 2 years ago now.

The mag also contains numerous quotes from members of the Edge forum on each game, highlighting this is a reader poll basically, with Edge throwing in some retrospective comments.

Even though you expect a fairly predictable result from asking the masses about their fav games! like this, it's a pretty depressing and boring top 10 all the same.

                          I've cancelled my sub. ( )

It said that they asked readers to submit thier favourite game, with thier thought. It was then nailed down to Edge's own 100 games and then sorted out within thier team. With there own re-written review.

Edge's Top 100 is listed on Next Gen.

And it's a pretty good list. Whilst I might not agree with the ordering (certainly wouldn't have put

                              Final Fantasy XII

in the top 10 ), there's not a duffer in there.

Yep, in general it's a pretty good list. There's the odd weird series choice in there like JSRF rather than the original or Pokemon R/S rather than G/S/C but, overall, there's great stuff in there.
