A nice list, I've actually played about 95 of them too. Which is great as I thought it'd be full of stuff that I'd never heard of leading to plenty of head scratching and !

Me too actually - I was pretty pleased with that percentage! Now to hunt out the other 5%.
Saying that I don't have the time for WoW or PSO these days...

What's the qualification for inclusion? I'm a bit baffled by this, because if it's how well the game plays today, Goldeneye wouldn't be in the top 100 let alone the top 20 (as much as I loved it at the time). The same goes for Doom 2.

If it's how good the game was at the time of release, then there are loads of exclusions.

I'd argue Doom 2 and Doom still play brilliantly today, replaying the later on XBLA proved that to be true for me. I'd have to give Golden Eye another play to comment on that because I haven't booted it for a while.

Puzzle Bobble is included too, which is my fav arcade game ever, that also plays brilliantly today.

Mr Driller was easily superceeded by Drill land or Driller Ace. This list is totally wrong

            Nah, fairly nice list.

            RType Final?

I've got R-Type Final and I've switched it on once - Need to get some time for it.

at number 2 - Better go unwrap that copy that's been sitting since the weekend

Yeah I agree with that, but I'm pretty anti-retro in the first place. There aren't many games that have stood the test of time in my opinion, though I do appreciate what influence they may have had once upon a time.

R-Type Final definitely shouldn't be in there. It's not even a good R-Type game.

Gradius V should have its place.

On that game aging point, I can't believe people voted the original Wipeout in over 2097. It's aged horribly and doesn't control well at all.

The rest of the list isn't too bad with the exception of the top ten.

LOL. I typed almost that exact post out but then couldn't be bothered to justify it so deleted it. Anyway, I'm with you on that one.

Well, if we're going to be picky. Pro Evo 6 at 15?

Vice City, the game with the weakest gameplay and most uninspired level design out of all the 3D GTAs, at 12 and San Andreas (the only one of them to score 9/10) completely ignored? A big meh to that.

Give me great gameplay over rose-tinted 80s nostalgia any time. Not my generation.

Have to really agree with the odd choice of GTA game...VC is by far the worst of the three.

And R-type Final is definitely the most baffling. It's honestly utter ****. The Original is far better, and yes Gradius V should be in its place.

think just about everyone would have a different one

there are many games that i think are overated (which i wont mention )

lets just say games like psyvariar/diablo2/baldurs gate/god hand i would rank quite highly in my top 20

r-type final i didnt like....i would have gladly have far less ships to choose from but make the levels better (said before ages ago the way the second level alters.....should have been done with all the levels)

I'm wading in to defend R-Type Final. For me it's the best in the series, and has endless replayabilty, with the different routes and all the different ships to earn. I enjoy gradius as well, but for me R-Type has the edge (no pun intended!).
Obviously it's different strokes for different folks, as I'm not a fan of psychonauts, and I see that managed to get in the top 100 as well.

I think they still play really well too, but nostalgia aside, do they play better than say Call of Duty 2 ? If you sat someone down and got them to play both games for the very first time, which one do you think they would say was better?

I love Doom and I think it holds up very well, but it isn't a top 100 game any more.
