Realised I had a US account on a memory card so used that this morning to redownload the optional ipod support again so that i can play AVIs offline.
Took a few attempts to actually download the thing as it kept on saying the data could not be retrieved. Live is really playing up for me this morning but at least I can now stream TV shows and movies.

Y'know, it' really winds me up how Larry Hyrb acts like he's everyones mate on his twitter site (http://twitter.com/majornelson) and his own site.
We're not your friend and you don't care about us, you work for Microsoft and it's all just PR.
Just ****ing fix it, we're paying for this service.
Rant over.Last edited by Jebus; 31-12-2007, 08:32.

I also couldn't help LOLing at the bit where he mentions that he, a Microsoft employee, uses a Mac in his office.

Aye - you haven't got a chuffing clue, that's why.
Why can't they tell the paying customers what is wrong with the service they are paying for?Last edited by Jebus; 31-12-2007, 11:05.

If they said "sorry guys we're having problems with blah blah blah it'll take a week to fix" I wouldn't be happy but it'd be a better position than the dragging on.
Its also laughable that the best place to get info is the Major Nelson twitter feed. It really ought to be plastered on the front page of xbox.com.

It's not the first time either, they NEVER tell the customers what is wrong when it all goes tits up...just "Obviously we can't tell you what went wrong"...well why not? I remember listening to a Major Nelson "blogcast" with E and he even said something like..."We really can't go into what went wrong, but we worked really hard and got it back as soon as we could".
The only reason I could think of is if it's a security problem, and they don't want to panic or lose the trust of their paying customers...otherwise, why not just tell us whats happened?

Yeah its bonkers.
But if it was a security problem I'd rather they told me and shut the service down until it was fixed. If it comes out on the grapevine that there was a security issue, particularly one related to credit cards or points, I'd be particularly peeved.
Its very annoying. I don't use Live for online gaming all that much but this week I'd vowed to get into some Team Fortress as I used to love TFC. Bloody typical!

I don't think this is a security issue (at least, I'll be very surprised if it is). I think this has more to do with the stress put on the Live system from having a faster dash and having the main bits of the dash dependant on being connected.
It must make a lot of requests and take a lot out of the network to have all those systems refreshing that much info and I think they under estimated its effect on Live. My little half arsed theory has been vindicated a little, from what I've seen at least, by how the Dash and Live has been working relatively fine during the day and then comes to a screeching halt in the night when there's more people around / the Americans descend on it.
All supposition of course but I think you're all right and we won't get a straight answer. Particularly from that corporate mouth piece Major Nelson.

Over-reaction much, when does the paying customer ever hear about the mechanics of a problem regarding an online service, be it LIVE or a game?
Hardly ever by my reckoning.
For example; Did we hear about why PES08 is **** online? Nope, although it's worth noting that that the PS3 message about a "problem" existing has gone from what I can see, and it's still ****ing **** online.
I paid £40 for PES08 and wanted to play it online;
Has it been fixed? No.
When was it released? October.
Where are we now? End of the year.
3 months, half-a-game.
I cough up £40 at the end of the year for my Gold Subscription, yes it's been playing up for a few nights this week, which isn't good and I know it's frustrating given some of you have time booked off, but at least the problem has been acknowledged. I would hate to think what would happen here had MN not alluded to the problem.
