    Goddamn this thing is LOUD.

Is there anyway to set a default volume across the board on an F200, so everything is quieter?

Enjoying it tho, Megadrive emu FTW, now to order some batteries and TV out cable. Has anyone used the USB Batteries? Any good?

I'd recommend the Energizer Universal Charger with four 2500mAh batteries.

Mine set me back £17 and they've been awesome. Charges in 60 minutes as well, and the charger can be used for AAA also.

PicoDrive has been updated, it's now able to play Virtua Racing at an acceptable speed.

Also, Mega CD FMV no longer skips!

Recieved my machine today (Play-Asia are quick!) with no customs charged (heh heh!)

Anyway, I've downloaded some emulators for it but need to get an SD memory card for it first though. Will order one of these off of Play.com tonight.

@Duddyroar: to do anything from playing via emulators to watching back video, do you absolutely need an SD memory card first or does the machine have any internal memory?

The machine has a small amount of internal memory but not enough to do much with, so you will definately need an SD card. And with 4GB ones going for £10, you'd be crazy not to get one. :P

The machine does has a small amount of internal memory and I believe you can play the pre-loaded demos from it, but to be honest you really need an SD card to start seriously using the machine. You can't write to the internal memory, you see.

Well, I got my machine and trying to get emulators running on it. The gngeo2x_0.7 doesn't seem to want to run anything past KOF '97 and Mame4All won't run any of the roms that I have. Anyone got any pointers for what I need to do?

Duddy finally pestered me into picking up one of these wonder devices. First impressions are mixed, the screen is wonderful and the gp2x does what it says on the tin. NES, PC Engine and Megadrive emulation is flawless. The games look ace running at their native resolution.

What lets the F-200 down big time is the crappy D-pad which is comprised of separate buttons. Duddy is being far too kind to it, basically it is utter ****e and spoils the experience on many games. SFII, forget it! Also ducking and switching diagonals on Rolling Thunder 2 or Shinobi is problematic. I even find shmups are clumbersome to play as often I switch between diagonals in quick succession. Very dissapointing.

The F-200 clearly doesn't have enough grunt to make a decent job of SNES emulation either. Many earlier games are fine but PocketSNES runs like a dog when transparencies are on which is needed for stuff like Megaman X. You can overclock it to a certain extent but this doesn't always help and the framerate can often be rubbish. Forget playing Super Mario Kart on this!

Lastly the battery life is a real let down for a handheld. I have mostly just been playing NES games with no overclocking and I get less than 4 hours on fully charged 2500mah batteries. You can't help thinking that a better power solution could have been found rather than dicking about adding touchscreen to the F-200.

So all in all its a mixed bag. I do like the F-200 a lot but it is deeply flawed. All this could be forgiven if it shipped with a decent D-pad. Oh well, roll on F-300!! haha

                        GBA emulation
                        ?

AllYourBase is exaggerating about the D-Pad. I personally think it's lovely and have no problems whatsoever pulling off QCF's. :P DoDonPachi is also a pleasure to play and I believe i've even beaten my PC Mame record.

What emulator are you using? Super Mario Kart and F-Zero both work lovely to me.

With the latest PocketSnes, use pocketsnes_fast.gpe with the following settings:

                            Sound rate 11025
                            CPU Speed 240
                            Frameskip auto
                            Transparencies off
                            Render unscaled
                            RAM timing: CRAIG
                            MMU Hack: ON

It's even faster if you go to Advanced Hacks and turn the Audio Performance Hack on.

You should find it perfectly playable, 25~30fps

For sure though, battery life IS a drawback.

Mame4all shouldn't be used to play Neogeo games. The compatibility isn't anything like GnGeo.

The reason it won't read any of your roms past KoF 97 is because for some reason, the author of the emulator hasn't coded in support for the latest roms. I can't tell you where to get ones that work unfortunately.
