Pff... two decent Borderlands games, five or so great Brothers in Arms games, the long forgotten but still ace Half Life expansions. Like it or not they've put out some solid shooters over the years.

They didn't make DNF btw that was Triptych -ex-3DRealms employees.

But have they worked on this from Day 1?

I ask as this was on the PS2 and Xbox schedules for years, due to be published by EA. Could it be that SEGA got the rights to Aliens along with whatever had been finished so far and Gearbox have completed it like they did wwith Duke?

It looks decent enough - pulse rifle - check, aliens with green blood - check, 1st person shooter - check

what was everyone expecting? it looks pretty much the same as the other movie tie-in fps games.

Its just such a shame because i have been so waiting for this for a long time. But what i cant understand is that over the past year or so just about every preview was making it sound that it was going to be great, obviously they all mentioned a few problems but they were said to be only slight. How can it go from that to be what appears to be a rather bad sounding game?

IM now three hours in, and i would say it by no means a bad game, its not going to win any awards, but from what ive played in campaign mode its solid enough.

To be fair have you all forgotten what tripe the last AVP game was. The video preview looked far head and shoulders above the "quality" of that. Although what is the obsession with punching Aliens in the face? Doesn't seem sensible at all.

Exactly. I watched a video of this the other week and thought it looked quite decent? Seemed to have a fair crack at the whole marine vs alien thing and there was a good bit of tension in the vid. Maybe I was just won over by the whole Aliens thing and it sounding right, but I'll still probably give it a go at some point.

A couple of scores floating around now, average looksike it's going to weigh in at 5 or 6/10

AvP is still miles better than this sorry pussbag of ****.

I wonder if this game will be more appreciated when its knocking around the ?15-?20 price mark rather than as full price release? If all im looking to do is play through it and enjoy the locations, messing around with the pulse rifles and maybe a little MP i will be happy with it. I do think that if watching videos it may look and play worse than it would if you were actually playing it for ones self .

I'm playing it right now, you can't go 10 minutes without seeing a horrendous glitch, team mates disappearing into thin air, then reappearing, no clipping so team mates walk through each other, some of the strangest AI decisions you'll witness in the genre. The only thing this game has going for it are the sound effects and musical score. Everything else is turd.

Really? I only paid about ?15 for it on the PC. I haven't played it past getting into some sort of nightclub area. It was one of the worse games I ever played. It made no sense, you could punch aliens to death but not get into airvents.

As far as I know the Gearbox game was put into production in 2007 and then halted in the middle of 2008 when Gearbox were going through some difficulties and had to prioritise on other games; I think Sega also didn't want the Colonial Marines launch to coincide with Rebellion's Aliens vs Predator so the delay was a happy compromise. They said work continued on Colonial Marines but considering the layoffs and the success of Borderlands it's safe to assume they shifted focus.

The last AVP game was pretty average(and that's probably being kind), but this is starting to sound even worse.

Wouldn't it be rather ironic that if the Wii U version that is in development by some other developer actually turns out to be the best version after all despite most people, including me, thinking the worst for it? Or is it just me being too hopefully optimistic
