is it just me that thinks this looks really scruffy and a bit fugly with a gameplay mechanic thats already been kind of ripped off in a LBP community level ?

I foresee another critical darling and a developer going bust, they've spent ages and a AAA budget on a niche limited interest title.

Notice how most those reports don't include the first bit where the guy who asks the question says how happy he is to see so many games inspired by Mario and Zelda though - that's a pretty insulting question if you ask me.

The reports out there make me laugh, they are almost on Sun newspaper levels of editing actual events for shock news.

"The Japanese developer praised the movie and said he was pleased to see how many independent developers had been inspired by games such as Super Mario Bros and Zelda since their childhood."

"But when he asked what the panel thought of modern Japanese video games, Phil Fish immediately replied “your games just suck” – a comment that sparked an audible reaction from the crowd, though some were cheering."

Rightfully there were some cheering because, if anything on PC or Console, this generation has highlighted that Japanese Development just got lazy.

I'll still play the game, but I do think that the guy's a dick. His credibility is based almost entirely on a game that's been in development for god knows how many years and is still yet to be even released - and yet he has the complete absence of humility to make such a sweeping and rude statement in such a public way. I feel for the guy who asked the question, very embarassing.

I never really got why people kept making a fuss about this but after the similar perspective trick was used in Sideswipe: New York this has lost even more appeal. If it gets decent reviews that justify their scores I might give it a go but it's a def try before buy title for me.

Fish has said that his main inspirations for Fez were Super Mario Bros., Zelda and Ico, so it's more of an informed question than an insulting one.
