      [Alien Hominid]

I finished this. It's not that bad.

Now, Super Ghouls n' Ghosts on the SNES - THAT'S a tough game. Thinking about it gives me post-traumatic stress disorder.

'Trauma Centre' on the DS is another one, mainly for the last section which just takes the piss. The only game that has ever compelled me to give up.

Don't give me that! Age has nothing to do with it.

Give a kid nowadays some of the old-school games discussed in here and they'd cry!

One of the reviews I read warned that if you took a break between sessions your survival rate would make Harold Shipman look like George Clooney.

This had me shouting and swearing too. Love the game but I got so near the end and I just couldn't beat it. Sat there in total, unbroken concentration, taking every corner as perfectly as possible, only to be out-nitroed by the twat of an AI. Or getting right to the end, just in the lead... only to screw up a corner by a microscopic degree and lose it. I'm getting a bit worked up just thinking about it. Might smash my keyboard up.

It was off the top of my head and I couldn't remember, i knew it was something like that. I've finished a few times myself tbh, as i love the game and the music, but it can be unforgiving at times, though i actually think it gets easier as you get towards the end.

The first 3-4 levels are a killer. I couldn't do it on 1 cred

I'm playing it on easy as well, i never had a problem with Contra 3 or Shattered Soldier, as found them quite fair. But this is a joke. It can bring you to tears, especially if you have been playing these types of games for a long time.

So what games do you find that are really difficult?
I've started playing Contra 4 myself and also find it really hard and the dual screens only make it worse. Contra 3 is actually much more difficult on hard mode compared to normal mode.

Other than Contra 4 I'd say Record Of Lodoss War, Devil May Cry 3, Godhand and F-Zero GX story mode.

How about Border Down. To actually get decent scores, you had to die and then the game got... harder. So anyone that was rubbish to start with died and it get even harded. Just laughtastic that one. I'm not saying it was that hard really, just that it penalised those that found it hard even more (unlike Ibara which makes it easier for you if you are rubbish).

Last Hope was a joke. No Hope (of getting anywhere in it).

F355 (DC) - I thought this was hard. Dodgy gear change boosts and weird powersliding made it difficult for me to get good times. Didn't stop it being fun, but I couldn't compete. Not sure if this fits in this thread though, because it's probably not "insanely" hard.

Fairly bizarre system yeah. I always went for the middle difficulty so that if I died I could go onto the easier one. Of course if I died on green then I only had red left which meant instant death. to top it all it wasn't even that good!

No mention of Battletoads yet, insanely hard games that took me years to beat, the SNES one Battletoads in Battlemaniacs and the second gameboy one Battletoads in Ragnarok's World were very tricky.

A lot of the old school 8 bit games, just insane and some of the early 16 bit games on the Amiga as well. Captain Fizz meets the Blaster-Trons string to mind as one such example, that game was just rock hard. Has anyone here ever played it?

I beat Ninja Gaiden 2 on normal, but made the mistakes of trying to do the trials on hard, still trying to beat the third trial, I spent 40 minutes in one attempt to clear it and still died. The download contents is just insane, the earlier games on the NES and SMS aren't that hard either. It's just really bad design on behalf of that nutter producer Temco have, who's name I cannot spell for the life of me.

I think someone already mentioned Battletoads. Never played them myself, but i have seen people playing them. They are known notoriously for their difficulty.

It was aces. You clearly have no ide........ etc.

Last Ninja II was pretty hard - isometric viewpoint but the angle didn't match the ninja movement angles so was pretty hard to make some of the jumps.

Indeed. I haven't made a massive attempt at it, but I hit more walls than Tommy Walsh. Seemed almost like a twitch / muscle memory type-thing rather than a racer. It looks amazing on my projector and I should have another go at some point.

*thinks* About half my posts are to do with massive failure. I am good at some games, honest.

Its such a stunning game and a decent racer, its a shame that the absurd difficulty stops me from playing it.
