After reading the stories about a sell out, I rushed down to Toys R Us (closest place to me taking pre-orders) and there was certainly no stock issues, loads of the ticket things you take to the counter to order. I think I may well have been the first person to order it!
So it seems there's no shortage in Canada yet and it's for sale here at a far more reasonable $150...

I watched the 'how to' vids on Live the other day and if they're correct about it's set up then I physically can't own one and doubt I'll be the only one. Before I get to friends who game, just going around the peeps at work who own a 360 reveals no-one with intention to buy it. I know none of my mates are bothered and the peeps who don't really game, 'the new audience', don't know what we're on about when we talk about it. So far I'm not seeing any hype or massive interest in it. Either Black Ops is drowning it out or it's just being seen as a here-nor-there side dish like Move. If it is selling out I'd wager its due to low shipment numbers rather than huge demand.

It worked for Wii, I suppose!
I had my first go on Kinect last weekend at the Grand Designs Live show. We watched a couple of kids play some kart-style racing game and to my surprise, my wife said she wanted a go next. So we Chinese-burned the kids and had a go.
It was responsive, but took some getting used to because cornering needs to be done a little early, but I think that was the cars not the camera being unresponse. I did struggle just pressing the start button initially though. The cursor would move off the icon.
Then they loaded up Kinectimals for us and the 360 guy petted some tigers and trained them in some games. All very disposable, but very well thought out (cleaning the slobber from the screen) and I can imagine kids falling in love with their virtual pets more than digimon/pokemon/tamagotchi.
Quite like the idea of the gym game too, looks like it could really push you.
The actual camera unit was a lot bigger than I expected.
Overall, I'm still curious but more than I was before trying it. I'd be more inclined to get one if I had a 360 in the lounge.

Anyone know if the games are going to be region free? I've ordered from Amazon in the US as this is out earlier and the AU dollar is near parity with the US right now. I've got the new slim so the kinect can be powered from the console but just a bit worried the bundled game isn't going to work.
Not a big deal of course as I can grab a few UK titles after launch but would be a bit crap getting it and having nothing other than the dashboard to play with. I wonder if they release any XBLA titles for it?

HOLY COW BATMAN!

Insane. It's $150 in the US right? So say, let's be generous, $100 profit per unit for MS. They'd have to sell 5 million - just to cover the ad campaign! Yes there will be knock on effect with console sales and software, but that is just insane. It can't be right.
Add in R&D, and manufacture, they could lose a load on this.
