I'm really crossing my fingers that this will turn out to be great. One video makes me think it looks great, the next makes it look decidedly mediocre.

It would be nice to go back to the 16bit era when you'd look forward to Disney games.

What a fantastic intro, best I've seen in ages!

It's tough to resist the temptation to pause on the model and guess the world's that will feature.

It was quite funny, in that hands-on video with Spector the other day, seeing him go on about all the features in Mickey as if they were something new. Puzzles, collecting things, platforms, Zelda-style adventuring. Warren, we're old enough to remember the days of the Nintendo 64!

New trailer showing off more ingame footage. Looks like the majority of levels are themed as abandoned locations in Disneyland (or locations disneyland is based off of)

This is getting some very mixed reviews this morning. 6 from Eurogamer, 8 from IGN...

Yeah the reviews seem to be all over the place - it seems to boil down to this though; if you're a massive Disney-head then this is a great love letter to you - if you're not, you might not be able to overlook some flaws (camera being one). I place myself in the former category.

I can understand this getting mixed reviews. It's very much a game that may or may not "click" for you. The first stage is a bland, generic castle that could give some bad first impressions that people may not shake off.

It's only as you get further into the game, you realise that a huge amount of work has gone into this game, the scores of subtle, heavily research design quirks, the amazing music that subtly references Disney music, the often surprisingly versatile level design that always has you thinking the route you're taking is THE route, only to realise when you get to the end that there were 3 or 4 different methods you can use to get to where you had to.

Epic Mickey has subtle game design down to an art much like Deus Ex's brilliance was only noticable once you stepped back and appreciated what it let you do (and ignored the so-so combat).

I do fear it's going to struggle to find an audience. It might've benefitted from being released into a less crowded time of year.
