Seemingly not just a price cut but offering free games to early 3DS owners - http://www.businesswire.com/news/hom...69.99-Great-3D
That's just for the US I think so it remains to be seen what will happen over here but it's nice to see NES and GBA titles on that list.

The GBA ones include Yoshi's Island, Wario Ware, Mario Kart: SS and Metroid Fusion.
All of those are excellent.

Edit: the article says Nintendo announced these are totally exclusive titles for this offer and won't be available separately. That's bold keeping those titles back from the estore in future as they are the creme de la creme of GBA gamesLast edited by davek22; 28-07-2011, 09:11.

Can anyone remember how the DS did early in its life? Is there a chance for a 3DS recovery or is it already dead?

I'm not too fussed with the NES games as they've aged too much for me to get much play out of them but the GBA list is amazing and that they look unlikely to see general release for a while sweetens the deal. If Minish Cap sneaks into that list of 10 too I'll be pure
Overall, 3DS sales haven't been that bad, they've just not met the expectations that system had and should have met. I've no doubt the price drop and Xmas line up will see number pick up dramatically. It's just Nintendo's arrogance it had to get pastLast edited by Neon Ignition; 28-07-2011, 09:18.

Of course there's always a chance for recovery. Only if it doesn't fly out at Christmas after the launch of two Mario games can it be considered to have fared poorly. It's certainly been way off the forecasted numbers so far though. I'm still selling through initial allocation of the Aqua Blue & only recently had to source some of the black model from other overstocked stores.

I suspect they see this as a calculated risk. A price drop will certainly help sales, and they have to really do one ahead of the Vita launch anyway. But it's quite a hefty drop, so taking the double hit of compensating people who already bought in is imortant to diffuse the backlash.
If they've done their sums right, by the time the decent titles start to flow they'll have a bigger userbase and everything will work out nicely.
Where it falls down now is if the drop in price doesn't spike the sales, cause this sale price has to be much closer to selling at a loss than before (we're too early in the cycle for them to have made many manufacturing cost reductions).

Exactly, it's pretty much a necessity. With the arrival of the PSV at ?250 the 3DS's price is hard to justify and would also look high when the Wii U arrived too. The new price point fits in well with their existing price range and comes directly out of the profit margins Nintendo placed on the system. It's fine trying to make a ?70+ profit per unit but only if your selling them in the first place. The next thing Nintendo has to do is phase the NDS out so stop the confusion with the systems branding. If they do that then it should be smooth sailing, if they can't sell any with that price and line up then the Vita doesn't stand a chance.
Apparently Mario Kart 3DS is officially called Mario Kart 7 now, weird.
