Nintendo will now make a loss on every 3DS unit it sells following today's price cut announcement, according to Bloombe…
Analyst says Nintendo will be making a loss on each unit. Not convinced myself, I don't think they'll be making much but it's unlikely Nintendo would panic themselves into a loss model considering the size of profit margin the system was initially pitched at. It's like some of the commenters say, Nintendo will have already budgeted for much of the aspects like distribution even without the price cut. They're likely aiming for a small profit per unit, bolstered by potential large increase in demand.
While shops discuss tactics, analyst Piers Harding-Rolls predicted that the Nintendo 3DS UK recommended retail price (R…
Also it's expected the final UK price will settle at ?150 which is pretty much spot on what would have been perfect at launch. The date seems set for August 12th. Hopefully, the cited issue of a lack of hit software for Wii and 3DS in their financial reports will kick Nintendo into gear with making new games, an area they've been lacking in for 2 years now.
From when the price drop comes into effect we're effectively looking at this run for 'name' releases in the UK:
-Sep- Driver: Renegade
-Sep- Starfox 64 3D
-Sep- Blazblue: Continuum Shift
-Oct- Spiderman: Edge of Time
-Oct- James Noir Hollywood Crimes 3D
-Nov- Rayman Origins
-Nov- Super Mario 3D Land
-Nov- Cave Story 3D
-Nov- Tales of the Abyss 3D
-Nov- Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7
-Nov- Ace Combat 3D
-Nov- Sonic Generations
-Nov- Need for Speed: The Run
-Dec- Mario Kart 7
-Feb- Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games 2012
They need to solidly promote them through Xmas to make the most of having the market to themselves before PSV arrives
