Might be it... I'm going to clear my cache and see what happens. It's currently asking for an update every time I plug in a different game to the last one I played...

It only caches five games at a time, but it holds more updates, however there is a limit of around 15 games I believe.

I've certainly played more than five games that have needed updates on this 360 since I bought it (January 2009) but this is the first time I've seen this come up. Clearing cache appears to have worked, I stuck in my most currently played stuff and none have re-asked for an update the second time of playing.

I wish Microsoft would include an option that lets you keep all patches installed. The idea that you need to cache a small number of patches is pretty much redundant now given that all 360s have had at least 256MB of onboard flash memory for years now.

I've always thought this was ridiculous. I think it caches 10 game updates, but why not just save them to the game's hard drive profile and include a small TXT file for the change log.

I don't know where you heard that but its not correct. The Arcade Jaspers were 256 and 512MB flash, but the Elites and Pros all had 16MB.

Pros and Elites have HDDs though. My point is that all recent models have sufficient storage space for patches.

Yup and it's a right pain trying to organise a night of gaming without it, in-game chat still works tho. I'd say more, but NDAs and all that ...

I would sign up just to see the voice improvements. But it says I can't voice chat with anyone who hasn't downloaded the update. So I'd think I will wait.

To be honest, without a kinect sensor I don't know why anyone would bother. The features like ESPN aren't for us anyway and all this does is stop you gaming with friends easily!

I'm all about the shiny and new.

Just crossing my fingers for a faster loading game library, it'll make updating more than worth it, I don't voice chat anyway!
