Actual gaming irk - Currys - Put your Switch 2 peripheral pre-orders up goddammit!

    Comment

I found myself in GAME at the weekend with my wife and son. While in there I asked the GAME guy if I could pre order a Switch 2 Pro Controller. He said they don't do pre-orders IN STORE anymore as they're all using one till system in there now and it isn't possible. They just advise to go/do it online. But ... what about the high street? I said to him. To be fair he was just as frustrated/non-plussed. I preordered one from John Lewis in the end.

Can you hook me up with this John Lewis, please?

Product link? Looks like it’s sold out

Only GAME have had consistent pre-orders avail in my experience (Pro Controller still pre-order-able there)

I admit this is quite a niche complaint, but in recent months I've heard a lot of UK retro gaming collectors refer to some specific items of junk in their rooms as a "piece" (like it's artwork) and I'd like to give a "piece" of my mind.

Look, I love games, always did - but I absolutely draw the line at calling calling game shop promotional standees, differently coloured consoles or Mario teddies a piece. Curio, sure. Weird item of junk, probably. Something to shove in a room to stare at and temporarily remember a time when you had less responsibilities, absolutely.

Nobody ever used to call them a piece. I'm not having it. And I know I'm a misery, so there.

Why don't hdmi cables not plug in like a good boy without you looking?

I guess they’re not as easy as USB-C but, god, do you remember trying to do the same with SCART?

Oh god yes. Honestly, an hdmi cable can have the same level of frustration sending me swearing like father jack.

Moonwalker on the Megadrive. I love it, but if I haven't played it in a long time I somehow forget that the last hostage on 1-3 is hidden behind a window. Up until this point all hostages had just been either out in open or behind doors. Happened to me again last night. Ow!

Yeah I'm with you on that. Most of this stuff is just kitsch. I find myself looking at less retro gaming stuff than I used to because the obsession and excitement over things like promotional standees for WiiU games is just...what. Why would you want that in your house? People on retrogaming subs go absolutely mad for old shop fixtures as well. I don't get it.

The correct terminology for these items is "tat".

Yep, I think many just associate collections as being how much stuff they can cram in rather than the quality. Very little curating. In the same way I struggle to have interest in system complete game collections. Owning 10,000 PS1 games isn't impressive when 9,500 are utter dog.

Oh my god, yeah. Reaching around the back of a TV to plug those things in was such a pain in the arse. The back of my Toshiba TV was scratched to death around the RGB Scart socket.

Even more fun was trying to get the component cables in the right order without pulling out the whole TV so you could actually see.
