Frogwares' The Sinking City 2 has launched its Kickstarter campaign and in under 24 hours, it has already surpassed its crowdfunding goal, raising over £140K and counting, as reported by Eurogamer.

The Sinking City 2 is my latest Kickstarter side eye project

It's beaten its goal in 24 hours and is being self published by Frogware. I get things are tough in their home of Ukraine but the wary nature of this Kickstarter is that the game is going to release in just a few months time. Frogware is a 25 year old studio which has been self-publishing for 14 of those years. The game is very clearly coming out regardless so it raises the obvious question of what exactly are backers kickstarting?

The target was 'only' £84,207 which doesn't go very far in game development or marketing and they've already passed a quarter of a million for a game its backing fans were going to see released anyway.

The slowly revealed goalpost targets for further backing promise things like more investigation elements, more enemy types etc which aren't massive things but this late on in the games development and with only a handful of months to go reek of monetising things that already exist within their pipeline. It's a bit late to be changing your game structure.

With 7 tiers of backing, the cheapest and lowest priced costs £38 and buys you the game - so basically... they're using Kickstarter as a pre-order store

Ubisoft connect somehow taking my PSN details including email address, without permission, and displaying Ubisoft connect pop ups while playing Outlaws.

Were done Ubisoft, I’ve had enough of this double sign in bull and your utter crap you force into games absolutely no one ever asked for or wants, utterly immersion breaking and you can’t turn them off.

Im glad they got zero £ from me from this copy, ill have to turn my internet off to stop it and once im done, im done with Ubisoft.

Ditto. I haven't bought a game of theirs for years; I had several in a row that were on Steam where they also required a UPlay login. I refunded them and never came back.

What's weird is that if they wanted you to use their store, and they were on their store, I could understand. But it's an unacceptable practice to list a game on Steam and require a login for another store too.

It's all about driving mindshare within the scope of user engagement via providing synergy in social enterprises thereby expanding the possibilities for shared experience opportunities to... allow for gamers to invest... *cough*... their experiences in the... *bluh*.... larger live service and...

          No, sorry... I can't...

It’s especially egregious on console when the whole point of it is a closed ecosystem, they’ve copied my psn name & email address, and are just freely tracking everything I do when the game is on. Without my consent or want AND spamming me in game with pointless f*****g notifications.

Im done, even second hand I’m not bothering anymore.

This is the kind of radical bluesky thinking that will get you promoted, everyone else take notes, amp up your ideas and please, be respectful and mindful of EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE wile divesting your thought sets.

Lets break for lunch guys as that morning meeting took us up to 1pm and make sure to shift some parradimes while drinking your on the house grass matter smoothie.

In fairness - every AAA has done this since the Xbox 360 era. They track basically everything you do, though admittedly, most of them anonymise their users to some degree.

Some of it I guess, but not your psn & email straight into their portal with non stop pop ups about their service in game. I’ve never had this in a console game before, it may have happened to be honest I don’t play every game that comes out 🤷‍♂️

Im just going to turn the console net off now when playing it.

Because gamefreak are absolutely deplorable on a technical level, they only get away with it because of the Pokemon name and continued good sales.

The Pokemon games should be developed by one of the EAD studios now and get the quality up.
