The optimisation of many games is becoming really shoddy.

It's sort-of similar to why the install sizes of some games are becoming gigantic; it's not that developers are doing it on purpose, it's that fixing it doesn't financially benefit the publisher so it never seems to get fixed.

I wonder if some short termism has set in, expecting updates on all these advancing AI learning tools will do the job largely for them whilst at the same providing so many moving goal posts it adds to the sense that it's not worth their while (especially when the majority of player still target 1080p)

I've put off playing recent big titles on PC because they've tended to be long games so this might change when it comes to them but generally I've still been fine with my 3080ti, anything that struggles usually upticks perfectly with DLSS etc applied still but again I imagine it depends on what you're aiming for (usually 4K60fps for me but I have zero issues knocking back to 1400p if need be as its not that different)

Yeah that is true i heard on PC some games like Dead Space and the Jedi survivor game never got the issues ironed out

I do feel having all these things in place to try smoke and mirrors for performance rather then just having it run well as normal....though granted i have been stuck with 1080p for so long as never felt the need for higher res

I had been playing the game The First descendant and performance was really really bad and i tried DLSS and while it ran better it was not great and had a smeary vaseline look no matter what i did, but then recently i switched it all off and it ran and just looked so much better

Is anyone finding some games ...the influence is almost bordering on plagiarism ? I know games have been copied for so many years like with "doom clones" and 1 v 1 fighting games but just seeing some games just at a casual glance its getting a bit to close for comfort, I saw a game Called Reignbreaker and it looked to me like Hades with a slightly different skin...and there was a game called Mayhem brawler that really went for the Streets of rage 4 look in many ways. And when it comes to the Souls like i am sure there are many out there to.

Reminds me of that blatant Cuphead ripoff from a couple of years back that wasn't so much influenced by Cuphead as it lifted its aesthetic wholesale. Enchanted Portals it's called, Wiki tells me. Supposed to be a bit ****. Did anyone play it in the end?

That one was weird though because despite being visually a bit "over-influenced" (putting it kindly), it wasn't a daft cash-grab - the game contained a huge amount of high quality art. Like it was expensive to make.

It feels heavily drowned out with clones on PC which isn't a new thing but it's amazing how few devs seem to recognised an age old issue. I get that they're chasing success but it just means their game gets lost in an absolute glut of identikit lower budget Souls/Metroidvania/horror jank etc crud. The amount of unserviced types of gaming that no longer gets made but would be amazing to see again, but instead we get this rush of clones which is daft because for decades bigger studios have run afoul of buying into the latest fad too late.

That's a tricky one though as Cup head lifts it's style directly from 1940s cartoons. So, for another game to do the same thing can't be called a clone unless it also plays just the same as well.
                  I haven't seen it myself.

I see. I'd like to check it out just to see how it is compared to Cup Head. I did enjoy Cup Head but it is one of those games that you need to be in the mood to progress anywhere.

Must say I never liked that aspect in Fallout 4

                            I quite liked it!

Not as fun as The Forest, though.

                              gold edition,
                              bronze peasant edition,
super platinum tons of pointless digital crap edition,

finally my personal favourite, completely unfinished please fund our game while we bother to finish it but the shareholders have done just fine edition.

Honestly devs, I’m all for making money, but finish your product and cut the marketing crap, I’m sick of it.
                              Release your FINISHED game.
Release a complete edition later down the line if needed with all the dlc in the disk, if you need too.

This. I have ZERO time for publishers going to Kickstarter or releasing early access titles. That's the domain of indies and for them it makes sense.

Once you have shareholders you can **** off with that noise.
