The use of a controller as a speaker. Used sparingly I can excuse it for the odd sound effect or two for immersion purposes, but having regular game audio coming out of that thing, without rhyme or reason or even a way to specifically turn it off or re-direct through usual audio channels? Go away.

I have speakers for a reason. Not only does this sound ghastly by comparison, but if I turn the volume down so as to continue playing quietly I don't then want the controller to blare out over everything else.

I have only ever seen it used great in a couple of games, resi 2 remake when you used a key in the doors and it came out the controller. When i first heard it i was like what the hell was that lol. The other was a wii horror game called calling where you had a phone that was cursed and you kept getting phonecalls from the beyond you had to hold your wiimote to your ear like a phone to listen to the calls it was a really cool gimmick. But in general if you use it too much it ruins the novelty of it.

My current irk is TMNT shredders revenge or moreso the physical release when it first came out i grabbed the physical then later down the line they released a ton of new DLC content and in turn released an updated physical version fine i thought i don't mind double dipping as it's a great game and i thought that was going to be it. And now yet more DLC is released just a small amount but they are now releasing a 3rd physical update release. I mean i get it you want that cash but 3 releases is a tad excessive. I'm reluctant to grab this 3rd release as they'll probably release more DLC now. Urgh just hold off and make a final version already.

Yeah you're absolutely right that it can be novel, and you've also just reminded me that an absolute favourite of mine - No More Heroes - also did the faux-phonecall with Sylvia thing to great effect before each boss battle. To call out an example of bad implementation though, it's Visions of Mana that is currently boiling my blood. One particularly egregious example is after every single battle there's a roulette-wheel type sound that spins as it counts up how much exp you just earned and even trying to play devil's advocate I can't come up with an argument for why it should come from the controller.

Would also be interested to know how much of a hit the already crappy battery life of a dual sense takes from it.

As someone relatively new to the PS5, I just discovered a quirk that no doubt you’re all well used to. I was excited to start the new Silent Hill 2 and it told me it was ready to play. And it was. For around 4 minutes until I hit a point where it told me I can’t go further until it installs fully. Took me way too long to find out when that would be and it reckoned it had more than an hour to go.

importaku I take it there’s a speaker on the PS5 controller, I didn’t have this experience with RE2 on Xbox?

fuse my only experience of this is back on Wii and at least there was a separate volume control.

I played resi 2 remake on ps4, the dualshock has a tiny speaker in the front of the pad.

Not everything is backwards compatible on the One.

Off the top of my head, I've recently tried to play Guitar Hero, Quantum of Solace, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon and Import Tuner Challenge in the last year and they won't play, which really grinds my gears.

The year is 2024 and Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is being advertised with a remix of Rob Zombie's "Dragula".

Oh yeah; I got a PS4 pretty late to the party (I originally had one just for PSVR, which I sold with that) - I actually got my PS4 Pro the week the PS5 was announced, as they flooded eBay and I got it for a steal.

So I installed Star Wars Battlefront (as I'd played the VR bit on the older PS4), just to see it working after setting up. It throws you into this level where you're in Echo Base, running around as Vader, killing rebels. Did this for a few minutes. Then a few more. Then a few more. Until I realised it had been 20 minutes and I was looking for some kind of way to exit.

Then I found out this is the 'holding area' while it downloads the rest of the game. Not a bad feature in theory, but the remaining download time was 6 hours.

Point I guess is that it's cool feature, but it should maybe have a cutoff where it informs the player that there's no way they're not gonna get bored before it's done

Install things your way is the best idea this gen, that absolutely not a single dev implements properly, it’s a complete lie.

Whatever you do every game downloads the whole lot anyway, including any multiplayer tat you specifically don’t want.

                      Its outright false advertising.

I couldn't get either of the Buffy games to work, had to dig out a 360.

At least some games are supported. PS4 doesn't support any PS3 discs at all.

It's probably the last generational transition where that happens I reckon. BC will be a given going forwards imo.

I know where you're coming from, but at least you know you can't play a PS3 game in your PS4.
I keep thinking I can play a 360 game on my One and it's "computer says no."

It's a bit of a roulette if a game will run.
                            Ace Combat 6 - yes
Ace Combat Assault Horizon - no

Yeah, I can see how it's annoying. I think the BC was a pretty manual process so they only got through like 20% of games before they gave up.

Games from that gen that haven't been ported are just a pain because they're not easily emulated and it's not like you want a 360 or PS3 hooked up to your TV the whole time (or at least, I don't), so then you have to think about dragging it out of wherever you're keeping it just to give something a quick go.

You can change the volume or turn the controller speaker off:

Configure your controller settings on your PlayStation®5 console when you want to customize settings such as the controller's speaker volume or vibration intensity.

But I'm curious if that means those sounds would simply not be heard. I know MGSV lets you choose whether certain sounds (like the radio) come from the controller or whichever fine output source you get your audio from.
