But I'm curious if that means those sounds would simply not be heard. I know MGSV lets you choose whether certain sounds (like the radio) come from the controller or whichever fine output source you get your audio from.
I believe if you set the controller speaker to “off” in the console settings the sound from it gets diverted to the tv, as the games will pick that up. But if you just set the volume to zero that still means it’s on and those effects will still be sent to the controller.

Game-related irk. I clocked DoDonPachi SaiDaiUoJou on the UK eshop last week. Went on to buy it today and it’s no longer there I hope I didn’t snooze and lose

Please sign up for our account system to play this game. No, I f*****g well won’t, I have PSN, or Live, your extra account means your game either doesn’t get purchased in the first place, or if I’ve bought it second hand and didn’t know, the bin, where it belongs.

But SaiDaiOuJou only appeared on the eshop a few weeks back. Must have been pulled for a reason. And I don’t think a physical exists.

Yeah I've been trying to keep an eye out to see if whatever's stopping them getting it on the UK/EU store sorts itself out, but it's still just DFK. If it did show up temporarily, I missed it too, for what little it's worth! I should really just get some Japanese credit but I am also feeling lazy.

I don't have Steam anymore simply because since the update mid last year it no longer works on Windows 7 and I refuse to update Windows on the gaming PC or Emulation PC as I call it due to various reasons. Worst thing is, I can't even play my older Steam games that worked perfectly fine before this update.
F*** digital media. How many times have I been screwed over by digital media in the last ten years 🤬

The only good digital media is GOG since it actually gives you the whole package in one file that can be saved to use at any point in time off line.

For anyone else looking forward to buying this game, I got the following update from Live Wire today:

The game was released on the Nintendo eShop (EU) on January 13; however, due to a change in rating, sales have been temporarily suspended. We have already submitted it for review to Nintendo, and sales are expected to resume soon. Once the sales resume, we will announce the update on our official X account.

That’s is wonderful to hear. It’s become one of my favourite shooters since playing M2’s port back in 2024, the idea more people can play it is a marvellous thing!

                        Sonic
With the recent praise Shadow Generations has had it's really highlighted for me the errors in Sonic Teams ways. Praise that the game is amazing when it's two things - the best of the 3D Sonics and also mediocre.

The trouble is that Sonic Team has had the incredibly fortunate position of spending 25 years trying to make Sonic in 3D at high speed work. SHG manages this by stealing from Frontiers moveset and mixing solid level design that is based around largely on rails 3D sections. The experience is like Sonic Adventure without the irritatations.

The trouble is that in 2024/2025 we shouldn't be aiming for finally fixing a 1990's era form of gameplay. Fans don't help, the complaining about the 2D sections and the need to emulate the 16-bit era momentum physics. The issue is that in these 2D sections in the old games the gameplay wasn't remotely as fast paced as the new titles so even if they nail the physics the levels don't work well around the pace and that form of physics doesn't translate to the 3D sections.

Nintendo has threaded reworking Mario's movement in 2D and 3D with each title whilst largely being successful in maintaining a sense of consistency (Sunshine non-withstanding) and it's actually much more closer to that approach that Sonic needs.

Sonic Team needs to address how Sonic controls in 3D when moving slowly. The original Morbius set up of the franchise would allow them to do all sorts of Mario style platform gameplay options which could then be worked on to build up in faster sections that break the pace of the levels. If Sonic doesn't control well at 5mph he will never control good enough at 500mph.

Even these fan projects where the focus is on this subject feel like they miss the point. The emphasis is on how well Sonic freely controls at high speed, from a standing start he goes to max speed whilst has the animation of an NPC when moving slowly

The newer games have a button for boost which is mostly used to keep Sonic at max speed in 3D sections but I'm thinking it would simply be better to ground up rework Sonic to control in a much more typical speed way with a robust moveset that brings it much closer to the Mario 3D style and have the right analogue trigger act as an accelerator so you pull it further to make him go faster beyond his default max speed, in chase sections/high speed sequences it could act as a throttle on corners etc.

I dunno, arm chair observation for sure, just feels like the franchise advances 1 year for every 3 that pass in real time and some really average stuff is going to give ST the impression they're nailing it because the fanbases bar is so low after decades of stumbles.

I will always make the case that the focus on speed worked better for marketing than it ever did for the games. For me, those 16-bit games, while having the odd fast loop section, were never really designed to be raced through in the same way later games were, and they were all the better for it.

Yep, they were fast by comparison of platformers of the day but are over emphasised these days

Yeah a lot of it was pretty sedate platforming honestly, with periodic bursts of speed which were mostly non-interactive. It basically just looked cool. Love the MD games but the speed was not actually a big part of them at all.

PC gaming is starting to Irk me a bit now, games that are not running that well even though they actually do not look that good and i have started to get a bit fed up with all these things like DLSS and frame generation, so often they just do not look right and i would much rather the game just runs well natively and now it seems like Harddrives are becoming an issue with performance to. Actually i got Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and while i had just started I was just shocked that the game at launch ran so well so far anyway

Shader compilations seem to be getting more and more prevalent too, with some games it happening at every launch
