I don't think I've ever been through the Sonic Cycle so quickly. Good to get it out of the system, I suppose.

Those modern Sonic sections don't really look any different to the "rails" sections I saw (and disliked) in Unleashed, unfortunately.

The Modern sonic looks average. The unleashed daytime stages weren't even that great, they were better than the wolf levels but that wasn't a hard feat to accomplish. They mostly played like fast mine cart levels. hold boost and jump over the occasional obstacle. switch rails now and again. Not enough exploration or platforming. Sonic 4 did do better in this regard, the actual physics and rehashes of old levels/bosses is what messed it up for me.

They've been making good games the last few years, but I doubt many people played them or ever gave them a chance .
The PSO PSP games have been decent and Sonic Colours and Sonic IV good games . I guess the biggest surprise will be people actually playing the full games, rather than just posting lame comments about them, or just going off a demo.

The 1st level in Sonic Unleashed looks and plays rather brilliant , some of the best textures and motion Blur I seen in any 360 game- it was just a shame it was rushed out the make the Christmas street date, when the rest of the daytime levels needed optimization (the whole Hub system was a complete mess though) And when it comes to Sonic Colours I haven't played many better looking Wii games at all, its one of the best looking Wii games there is , granted that not hard, but credit should be given to the Team for making decent use of the Wii chipset

Though Unleashed was an improvement on what went before I found Colours to be a massive improvement on it. The werehog levels have been largely documented but I found many of the Sonic levels to be lacking in design also. The on rails nature of the series doesn't bother me, I've always felt that many of the complaints against this aspect of the series are over crediting the early games complexity. It's always been about the exhiliration of high speed rather than platforming accuracy with Sonic.

            Dear Sega,

Please stop toying with my emotions - laying the smack down on the Streets of Rage Remake project(which I understand, but still. You could've done it a long time ago and saved those guys eight years of work) and releasing that golden announcement video in the same month.

            kthxbye,

            - Me

I wonder how much the reactions to Sonic 4 played a part in this.

I started out hating that, then I loved it in spite of the physics. I've returned games for much less than that in the past so I can be very picky if I feel like it, and stayed away from arguments about the physics because I thought that everyone on here who didn't like the physics had good reason not to(i.e. because they didn't like them).

Then we get a Sonic game announcement that lets us choose. Imagine how different the reaction to Sonic 4 would have been if you had the choice in that.

I'm curious, though, what will happen to Sonic 4 as a result? I'm assuming they'll still release those episodes but how many of the physics-hating camp would bother getting it if they have Generations? I doubt they would add switchable physics in Sonic 4(you never know, but maybe they'd have to shift things around in the levels to compensate).

Just saw the extended video and it's actually brightened up my day. It could still go dark, especially if they add extra characters(Tails I can just about bear) or do some other nonsense. Most Sega-related announcements bring to mind that scene from an old Michael Keaton film called Mr. Mom where he's winning a race but falls over right near the end in slow motion.

But for now, I'm caught in the cycle and I DON'T EVEN CARE!

              Looks good.

Call me bananas, but in that extended footage I actually preferred the new Sonic sequence. I'll pretend that I didn't see him fly through a tree, mind...and I'll try my best to unhear that ska mash up of the green hill zone theme too...

              But yeah, looks good.

They've announced the Wii and 3DS titles Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. No mention of whether they'll chase Xmas sales or wait till next summer when the events on.

Looks like another straight line on rails Sonic game with nothing new to offer. Although i liked the part where he went through the waterfall into that cave and then shot back out into the sky it was still route one stuff. Sonic Adventure was the closest the real Sonic Team got to producing a proper decent Sonic game. So i would go for a Sonic Adventure 3 only at 60fps and this time make the camera perfect and the controls better but as far as level design goes Adventure really hit the nail on the head as it was rarely straight line stuff. Sky Deck was a perfect example of great level design but like i mentioned it was let down by the horrible camera, glitches and erratic controls.

That extended footage on YouTube is just pure awesome! I have wanted a proper Green Hill Zone ever since Sonic 1!!!!

This is now my MOST anticipated game of 2011.

Just watched the extended one again. Blimey. Even his jumping sound is the original Sonic 1 sound.

There has to be a catch. It all looks too perfect.

Why is it when Sonic goes hi-def, far LESS can be seen on screen? Shouldn't it work the other way around? Everything is huge here and you can't see what's up ahead. The 2D sections look and sound lovely but I'm not convinced by what I'm seeing at all. The levels look like close to single path and not all that interesting. And the on-rails sections? Well as soon as I saw the three rails section, I got a flashback to Sonic Heroes and falling off and through the ground and I blacked out and had some sort of seizure.

That was two hours ago. I'm feeling better now.

But I will not fall victim to the cycle and I certainly could never relive the horror that was Sonic Heroes. Because they have failed to advance Sonic successfully at all in the last twelve or so years and, instead, have created atrocities, they just seem to be trying to lift from the past, like with Sonic 4. Sonic 4 didn't quite work so they're beating their head against the same wall again. Green Hill Zone, Sonic Adventure (robot fish for whale but that's what it is). Probably a safer strategy but do I trust Sega to do it?

I'm not going to deny it looks stunning. It's about time Sonic got his ass back on Mobius where it belongs. In the first level with classic Sonic I can definately see multi-route points in it, the modern Sonic section doesn't really feature them but as with the modern titles has far more spectacle. It really comes down to how it plays I guess. I'm willing to give them benefit of the doubt for now purely because the last 2 games have shown clear improvement. This isn't likely to be as good as the classic entries but if it's another improvement on Colours then it'll be a fun and solid entry in its own right.

I actually think most people overrated the so called classic sonic and look back with far too much rose-dinted spec's . Compared to Mickey Mouse, Revenge of Shinobi and the totally overlooked and underrated QuackShot Sonic didn't compare well at all. The only Sonic games I ever really liked from the so called classics (2D) was Sonic CD and Sonic, but they just didn't hold a candle to Quackshot or the near perfection that was Revenge.
