Running in 30fps also means you don't have to run the AI, physics and other gameplay quite so fast either as running quicker than the display gains you nothing. (although most games decouple them these days, you still don't want one lagging behind the other too much).

The current gen is really bumping up agaisnt the memory limitations of the hardware, unless that gets a sizeable kick then adding more GPU grunt gets you nothing anyway.

You count wrong .... I'm on about domestic launches. If we want to go latter lauches in the different parts of the world , then it doesn't or will ever get any better than the USA launch of the DC , but you know that was almost a year after the DC 1st shipped

Oh I hope it happens , its just such a smoother and better experience when games are running at 60 fps

As for as the Wii, it had Zelda, and that was awesome, and more than transcended the hype for most people.
        So did the Cube .

If it would guarantee native 1080p and 60fps with the same (at a minimum) graphical fidelity that we get today? Sign me up!

TBH I would need something like Wipeout HD+ to entice me. Better textures on a FPS wouldn't impress me really, as it's not my bag baby.

As for the 360... I only play Cave shooters and NHL games. I am sure NHL would get a boost from more power and graphics; the current sports games are so much better than this time ten years ago.

Ok, so discount Super Tennis then and you're left with SMW and F-Zero.

That still doesn't deter it from being a AAA Wii launch title.

? That is just my point they is only a small number of games either worth getting or ones that are a any good for any system launch, the only possible exception was the X-Box domestic launch

Buying a game that plays looks and sounds almost exactly like what is available on the previous system is not what I buy a brand new system for. If one thinks like that the PS3 domestic launch must have been the best ever, with all those lovely PS2 games one could play on your brand new PS3.

On the other hand, Super Mario World and F-Zero were both system sellers that are regarded excellent examples of their respective genres even today. Throwaway technical demostrations they weren't.

I've never said otherwise. It's still a handful of games , the same of any launch and there can be now and again a AAA game in a system launch, Mario (Snes, N64) , F-Zero for Snes Pilotwings N64 and HALO for the X-Box are the exception to the rule; hell even the 32X had a AAA game with Viruta Racing Delux imo , I also thought Virutal Fighter was a AAA game (still for me the best in the series) by many will no doubt will disagree with that

In most cases it not realistic or fair to expect a launch game to be perfect and have as much content as game that ships mid-way through a system life, more so in this 3D age.

Of course it's fair. When you buy a new console you want some good **** to play on it immediately, and not have to wait six months to a year for something to really dig into. If I want to be wowed by a tech demo I can just go to Youtube.

You are just blowing things way out of proportion, like always. People buying the Wii were never interested in fancy graphics, or if the games could run on a Gamecube or not. If you were buying a Wii then you'd get Zelda with it, you'd be crazy not to. If you aren't buying a Wii you'd stick with the later Gamecube version.

My original point still stands, excluding the DS range Nintendo always launch a console with at least one AAA.

? Well if you Youtube is your think 'why the need to even buy the games, When you can just watch Youtube ?

Did the Wii and Cube , DS3D had Big games to really dig into @ launch? (most of the games could be finished in hours) . With the Cube and Wii it took them a time to get going and no doubt the same will be true of the 3DS; just like it was for the DS and host of other platform no least the 360, PS2

Dave's right but sadly the console vendors have tried shipping with zero AAA titles and we all still buy in regardless, and we've doen so for multiple console launches in recent times so the precedent has been set. That said Sony have a chance to change things with the Vita. If they ship that with Wipeout 2048 and Uncharted I reckon it'll sell like hotcakes.

I disagree , Console makers try their hardess to make sure there's great games out there on day 1, just that good games take a while to make , and its not always great making a game when the console spec's or tools are constantly changing and improving . I happen to think the likes of PGR3, MotorStorm, COD II were very good, if not AAA games ready for launch- I liked PGR 3 more than PGR4 .

That said I don't expect a launch RPG to be has big as a console RPG that ships 3 years down the console life span

                              Next gen -

                              - all the bells and whistles for visuals and audio
                              - quiet
                              - server based game saves so I can have more than physical machine and continue play by signing in
                              - hack proof (as well as can be)

I can't see the bit where you disagree lol. I thought RFOM and Motorstorm were very good. I think Ghost Recon on 3ds is very good. They just aren't up to the quality of e.g. Super Mario World and Mario 64, both of which are considered to be amazing games even now. Games obviously take longer to make these days so yeah, it must be difficult to get one ready in time for console launch. The console makers therefore have two options - ship with no AAA or delay release until a AAA is ready. BTW, I'm not a fan of the term AAA but I use it here to get my point across.
