I wonder what MS will do if this sort of model takes off, after ploughing so much money in to non pad gaming

I'm so sick this now, I can't tell you. How refreshing it would be to have a back to basics approach with games consoles just getting more powerful while sticking with the same input methods/controllers.
Also a stripped back and cheaper option for gaming-dedicated consoles without the multimedia/hub stuff, another option costing a bit more for people who want that. Just more power. And the same controllers. Maybe different colours if you must. Matt finish, like. These readjustments/'new ways to play' are wearing thin. I'm wearied of the 'the potential is there' arguments. Next E3 I'll be told I need to stand on my head to truly understand where games are going. I wonder if our hobby might just reinvent/diversify itself to death.

By the time Vita sells enough for devs to think the function worthwhile the PS3 will be on its way out, then its the same situation with the PS4 and the PSV. Meanwhile Wiiu offers 1:1 userbase to rely on. If Kinect can only generate a handful of games per year from devs a PS3-PSV function stands no chance

A Vita/PS3 combo can't do what this can do anyway, can it? Not exactly, anyway. Not only is the motion sensor in the Vita nowhere near as good, but the WiiU seemed to know roughly where it was in relation to the television via the sensor bar I guess, whereas there's no way for the Vita to know.
It could probably hash something similar together, experience-wise, but it wouldn't be as precise.

True but the Vita isn't being pushed on this function and the PS3 wasn't designed to stream the volume of data required to the PSV. I agree that a version of it is capable but devs aren't going to bother with a set up like that. If it was that easy to upsurp the Wiiu, Sony would already be touting to burst Ninty's bubble.

Am I the only one who wouldn't be at all surprised if this flops big time?
But then I didn't think the DS had a chance against the sexier, more powerful PSP, so I really do not understand Ninty's target audience in the slightest, lol.
Meantime, PLEASE can everyone stop this 1080 60fps nonsense. Because I just don't see it. Nintendo sell consoles for a profit, and do not do cutting edge tech like that. From the little we know about the CPU, the fab size would indicate this isn't going to be pushing out leading edge performance. And why should it, when both the DS and Wii proved there's a massive audience out there who don't care about leading edge graphics. PS360 beater by 10% is about what I'm expecting.
You wait, this time next year, MS will piss all over WiiU parade.
