And all they have to do is release Pokemon, Mario and Zelda on iOS to solve their cash problems.

They are hardly "strapped for cash".

They can afford 4-5 successive console bombs, apparently. When was the last time a Nintendo console bombed? The Virtual Boy? The 64DD?

I have to agree here, after playing LttP I found this to be a huge hindrance. I believe there were some parts where this item switching had to happen, due to limited buttons. I at least remember excusing it for some reason.

        I could be talking cock.

Well on the Game Boy it's excusable because the available buttons are so limited, and they're all used as much as they could be. If there were shoulder buttons, they could have been used to cycle through your items, which would have made tihngs a bit smoother. I'm just thankful the menus come up quickly though. If you've ever played FFVI on psx, you'll know how much worse it could be.

Yeah, I stopped playing PSone FFVI after 30hrs once I was able to get it on VC instead.

I've been meaning to restart it before the Distant Worlds concert next month.

In regards to nintendo wii u being future prove.... Is there any words on whether it is compatible with direct x 11? If it is... then they can sit quite comfortably, rest ensured third parties can still port over next gen looking titles using unreal 4 etc.... If it doesn't, then in a couple years it'll certainly be interesting to see how Nintendo try to keep up and remain fresh. Sony and Microsoft will have their own extra screen / tablet alternatives that'll also become mainstream, so Nintendo won't be able to rely on the gamepad for uniqueness. Perhaps the first party titles will be enough....

No WiiU has DX10 based hardware, some of the DX11 features could probably be done in software, but obviously that would be at a cost.

Saying that this isn't a M$ console so it doesn't really apply anyway as DX is Microsofts API's in the end. In theory the hardware inside the WiiU is to the equivient DX11 standard, but then thats really an unknown at the moment as I think Nintendo use OpenGL anyway.

Either way it shouldn't be too bad as long as the system achieves decent sales. The first 2 years will be ridden out on current gen ports and engines, with a solid userbase it'd get enough support for years 3 and 4. The trouble is if years 5 and 6 see the content tail off like with Wii

I guess that will depend on a lot of factors in reality, I still see the WiiU as being about half a gen behind in processing terms (a bit like the Wii) so there will probably not be all of the multiplatform games in the next gen on the console.

Saying that and as others have said before people buy Nintendo consoles for the exclusives, and thats where Nintendo really need to concerntrate their efforts as it could make the difference. Bayonetta 2 is certainly a sign that at least they are trying to get some of the devs to do exclusives (or at least timed exclusives).

Wii U has a weaker processor than 360 and PS3 but double the RAM and a better GPU. Suits Nintendo games perfectly I imagine but it means it could struggle with some stuff that even 6 year old consoles manage just fine, which is a bit of a shame.

Not really any different from any other hardware though really .. Both M$ and Sony hae just recently started to make a 'profit' on the 360 and PS3.

A very different position for Nintendo though, as far as I know.
