Without trying to play devil's advocate here, Bioware are basically admitting they created the ending in a manner that gives no closure so that they can sell it to you as DLC later. Or in their words, they kept the conversation 'high level'.

Mass Effect 3 executive producer Casey Hudson has responded to players upset about the game's ending, admitting fans ne…

Considering the world it is set in, Bioware could t give closure to the mass effect story unless the world simply blew up at the end of it. Plus I'm sure we all want DLC for it, so that we can continue our game, so I see no problem with them purposely leaving open the window for DLC.

The fact that they did say that also proves that they didnt make false promises

It would have been nice for fans that spent ?120 over three games to get a proper ending though.

I'm never likely to play the Mass Effect games. Is there good plot synopsis somewhere (as recommended by someone that has actually played them).

A plot synopsis wouldn't really help understand what the backlash is all about, to be honest. A massive focus of the Mass Effect series (maybe even the entire point) is your interactions with the other characters, the decisions you make while talking to them, as well as other larger decisions you make at certain key plot points during the game. This is supposed to result in 'your' Shepard being quite unique and personalised as you have taken decisions that respect your personal outlook on events and these are supposed to carry forward as part of your character.

Bioware's excellent characterisation also makes you become attached to the characters - your decisions end up having a weight and emotion attached to them, rather than just being pragmatic game decisions.

                Try Wikipedia.

The thing about the story in the mass effect games is that it's different for everyone who plays it as different actions you make mean different characters live or die. They aren't really presented in a Traditional cinematic way as much as the stories are more about your own personal experiences with the characters

The thing is (and I have yet to play ME3), is that the advertisements present the story as Shepard 'Taking back earth' now, if I'm not mistaken, taking back earth would surely mean a good ending and closure for the entire ME over arching plot. I don't think it's right that after spending so much money and investing in ALLOT of hours to complete all 3 games, that Bioware have the right to then make an ending not fitting for an end to the trilogy. Yes, I know that they said that they want to keep it ending open for further DLC, but I don't know why just because this is a video-game, that we have to accept this practice? Can you imagine if film studios did this? You'd wait for years for all 3 movie's to come out, spend money and invest time watching them, only to find out that there is not proper closure and we have to wait even MORE time and spend even MORE money to get that closure. I think that would take the piss, and there would be a public out rage. So surely we should hold game devs up to the same level of scrutiny!

Isnt that was most film franchises do anyway? Look at stuff like Saw, im sure they have said each of the last 5 films in that series was the final chapter at some point.

The fact is that anyone who really likes the mass effect universe will probably want more from it. People just like complaing, plus who says he does take back earth anyway?

You can't sue for false advertising based on something like that. False advertising is if you advertise it as a videogame and it turns out to be a word processor.

I think what most people are pi$$ed about is that Boiware promised that there would be 16 endings and that your choices would effect the gameplay, answer here to those that finished it red, blue and green, and Flabio your ex boss was one of the main culprits in fact he was the commander in chief of this attempt by devs to get us paying customers to buy into this hype, your ex boss was one who always promised a lot but never fulfilled those promises and i think you can now put bioware in that camp too after this debacle

i haven't played the game yet and hence can't comment on the ending. but if it's true what Bioware claimed about it, like documented in the Bioware Forum, then i think he has valid points to be disappointed about the game as a product.

maybe some of you feel more sympathy for this fan's harsh course of action after reading the claims...
