They've embargoed it because it's so much better than the PS4 version

That's the thing with these embargoes... even if it's not a bad thing, everyone immediately assumes that it is, so in a way the damage is already done. I don't understand why they don't just get it over with if it is bad news.

If it were emargoed across the board you could come up with any excuse you liked, but to specifically hold back one.....doesn't look good.

Baring in mind the best version of COD at the time of releasing a brand new console alongside your biggest competitor, can potentially make or break you, microsoft clearly want as little impact as possible on this.

Yeah it doesn't. But tbh these days if any game review is embargoed until say the day of launch I'm highly skeptical. If they believed in their game, they'd have no issues having the review out there. Obviously that isn't always the case but that's always what people think.

I'm not bothered either way, I'll just get the better version for xmas.

As a former 360 owner(now PS3) I enjoyed having the better version of multi-platform games so it's nice that PS4 owners will get that feeling for a change.

Can anyone think of a games review emargo that was for a 8+/10 type game? In my experience if the publiher won't let me read a review before release date, then it's normally a bad sign.

                  GTA most recently.

Usually it's a bad sign though.

I thinks CoD is basically review proof these days. It will sell millions irrespective of review scores. And PR stuff will be tightly controlled for the new platforms as a result of the launch dates being so close between the systems and the previous generation versions.

                      Ahem..

So being that the game was running on Xbox One hardware, the first thing I'm sure the first thing that might spring to mind is the game's native 720p resolution. To be honest, I had known about the resolution going in, but it barely occurred to me while playing. If I hadn't known, I honestly would have never guessed. Instead, I was far more impressed with the game's smooth performance, owed in large part to its solid 60 frames-per-second.

Looking at COD, it's a twitch shooter with limited view distance and small maps. I would much prefer 720p fixed 60fps over 1080p with stutter.

I still maintain that as a consumer, if it was possible to manage 720p with 256Mb of RAM and a 6 year GPU/CPU combo, it is not unreasonable that I would expect a new console that costs over ?400 to manage 1080p. I thought this was the same expectation across the gaming world: The Publishers, the consumers, the press, the hardware suppliers everyone.

Now most of the gaming press seem to be downplaying this issue (Despite earning clicks on "Graphical comparsions between PS3/XB360" and telling us that we should choose XB360 9/10 over PS3, due to minute improvements.) and also there seems to be a growing apethy on forums too.

I am a multiplatform gamer, I will buy all of the consoles. Regardless of platform if COD can't manage a steady 60fps on next gen hardware, that is a clusterf**k of epic proportions.

                        Hopefully things will greatly improve.

I expected 1080p last gen to be honest. For it not to be a staple this time around is disappointing but then I'll always configure PC to do 1080 at 60 even if it means dropping graphical flourishes.

Exactly, ridge 7 was magnificent in 2007.

                            I mean come on.

Wipeout too. (Though maybe that was dynamic res)

I dunno, it's just good to know that I'm not alone in being dissapointed about this, and I am fully aware a PC would do this today, but I love console gaming!

On Killzone Mercenary the devs used a very clever variable/dynamic resolution technique so that Native was possible, and when it drops in action you hardly notice. (So sniping is native for example.) Maybe that will be one of the ways this gen will solve the issue.

With good coding and some time with the hardware it should all be possible, but I just thought 1080p would be a given.

I think Dishonored was until launch day IIRC.
