I doubt they would ever enter the console market. They will either do some clever iPad attachment to convert in into a console via Airplay as it is almost powerful enough to play decent games right now or beef up Apple TV to provide iOS gaming on a bigger scale and maybe allow all OSX games to be played on it.

PS3 sucks, so I think they should bow out yes.

PS3 is the best console this gen - problem is Sony's attitude at the start of this generation. They will be back next gen and I would suggest stronger then ever.

They do however need to work on their other products, their TV's phones, tablets, laptops and tech in general is way behind the curve. Samsung now own that space.

Nope, Wii is best this gen. Actually, Wii is pretty much the only console this gen. With the constant updates, hours of installing, iTunes type stores, DLC, hardware failures, higher costs, season passes, DRM and other 'first buyer only' bull****, I don't see in what way the PS3 and 360 can be called consoles. They're PCs.

Yup I hate that crap, but we are quibbling over a definition - either way they all play games. Sony's PS3 simply has the best ones and doesn't charge you for online.

If Apple got into the console market I'm fairly sure they'd be dealing with digital downloads only and that having a console from them would tie you into iTunes hell. At that point I think I'd go to my happy place and play retro games for the rest of my life.

PSN is severely lacking in terms of people actually playing games though. I'd rather pay the ?3 a month it works out to and have people to play against.

I already have. Plus PC, I guess.

The Wii is probably the most successful hardware this generation but really I see it as a niche platform that doesnt offer enough range, something which the Wii-U seems to be attempting to address.

I owned one and it quickly gathered dust apart from a few key first party titles that excel on the machine I think its probably the worst home platform for gaming when you consider that its not HD, doesnt offer other bells and whistles besides key franchises. Just my opinion but I have always seen it as something you'd own if you like X Nintendo title because you know its not available anywhere else... there-in lies its success but to some degree also its failure as it offers little else and really for me it was a secondary platform.

If I were to own only one console it would be Xbox 360 for the range of functionality it offers and whilst I can see others preferring PS3 I dont think many would only own just the Wii?

As for the PS3... Previously the PS2 was my go-to first choice platform but this gen the PS3 has been a dust collector of epic proportions. I think that was due in part to it entering last when I'd already got an Xbox 360, it's online functionality being initially drip-fed and a pale comparison to XBL (now of course much improved but still IMO behind the curve) and really only the first-party titles showing the power of the console where most 3rd party titles were at best the same as what was on offer on 360.

As a result I've hardly used my PS3 at all... :/

So looking down the track... I can see me owning the next Xbox, owning the next PS platform... I dunno, its still a wait and see for me but if Sony bowed out and their content was somehow available on other platforms I certainly wouldnt miss their hardware efforts.

As for Apple and console gaming. They refuse to even look at tactile controls for their handheld devices and they're legendary for drip-feeding hardware revisions so quite simply that gets a "hell no!" from me. Consoles are all about delivering hardware ahead of its time for a long term investment of a stable platform and I just see that as going against Apples main approach to devices.

I hope the PSN never gets to the advertisement hell that is the XBL dash now

I prefer it that way. I'd rather play co-op with people I know than ranked matches against a bunch of cuntwazzocks.
