I bought a Wii U when they announced Wind Waker HD a few weeks ago and it's been sat boxed-up in my hallway for over a week now. I ordered it, looked at what games are out for it while waiting for it to be delivered and quickly realised there is NOTHING I want to play on it right now. I'm not saying there's no good games, I like The Cave, but I already have that on 360 and I just have no interest in Arkham Asylum, FIFA, etc. Even if I did I'd have played them on 360 already? Infact anyone who says the Wii U's game library justifies a purchase today is deluded and undeniably a "fanboy" all the good games are available on 360/PS3 and NSMBU in 1080p isn't worth ?200+ more than NSMBW in 480p. Nor is Zombi U a ?300+ game when you can pick up Left 4 Dead/Dead Island etc for ?10.

BUT when Rayman Legends hits I'll start using my Wii U, then Pikmin 3 comes out I'll start to feel like Wii U ownership makes sense and by the end of the year hopefully we'll have Wind Waker HD, Earthbound and Yoshi's Island on VC, maybe even Yarn Yoshi and a few EAD gems at which point the Wii U will be highly recommendable and I'll be saying it's only a "core" Street Fighter game and a decent fightstick away from being the only console I ever need. The Wii U IS good value but not for what it does today. The only reason to buy a Wii U today is for the knowledge you have it ready for what's to come. Anyone who says any different is just deluded or a fanboy of the worst variety really... And I'm a Nintendo fangirl, I'll argue black and blue about the quality of Nintendo's AAA Franchises, they just haven't been any console ones to get all excited and rose-tinted about in a long time (at least since Skyward Sword)... :/

I don't get why 'power' of a console is what people focus on to decide value for money....

In regards to tech, people i work with hail the Wii u's tech in regards to the gamepad. Nothing even comes close at the moment, it's massively impressive - and expensive. I imagine people are in for a major shock this 'next gen' if 'power' remains the focal obsession.

Its about what you get for the money you outlay...the pad might be good but for the money, until the AAA stuff arrives i dont value the machine at ?300.

Pikate pretty much summed it up....the snes was priceless when it had smw and lttp.

But our resident experts said it wasn't expensive to manufacture! Old technology they proclaimed! Our resident experts said Nintendo were lying about not making a profit! Are you suggesting our resident experts were *gasp* wrong?

I can't wait for those triple A games to arrive.

Having said that, from a personal perspetive, I have enjoyed the Wii U - Zombie U, NintendoLand, EShop titles and the amazing Miiverse massively (as a guilty pleasure, even the New Mario Bros offers fantastic level design, really quite impressed! - very fun if too samey). Overall, the charm has won me over and I havent enjoyed a console this much for a very long time, and the family love it too. It's become part of our living room... ?300 odd worth every penny.

            :-)

            Edit: Parkinho, ha ;-)

HMmmm. I piece the above statement with your 'interesting times' comment in the xbox 3 thread and I conclude the way we interact with the games is the focus of this next gen.

Oh and Pikate NSMB isn't 1080P

In fact if DF claims are true no WiiU game ever will be 1080P .

                      Rayman Legends is 1080p

"Rayman Legends on Wii U combines beautiful artwork, animation and audio with some innovative GamePad integration - and it all runs at native 1080p with a nigh-on flawless 60 frames per second update"

MrB are you one of these "resident experts" I have been hearing about??

It was ballpark speculation at the time based on what we had eyeballed at the event, but the final GPU is indeed a close match to the 4650/4670, albeit with a deficit in the number of texture-mapping units and a lower clock speed - 550MHz. AMD's RV770 hardware is well documented so with these numbers we can now, categorically, finally rule out any next-gen pretensions for the Wii U - the GCN hardware in Durango and Orbis is in a completely different league. However, the 16 TMUs at 550MHz and texture cache improvements found in RV770 do elevate the capabilities of this hardware beyond the Xenos GPU in the Xbox 360 - 1.5 times the raw shader power sounds about right. [Update: It's generally accepted that the PS3 graphics core is less capable than Xenos, so Wii U's GPU would be even more capable. 1080p resolution is around 2.5x that of 720p, so bearing in mind the inclusion of just eight ROPs, it's highly unlikely that we'll be seeing any complex 3D titles running at 1080p.

If its half as good as origins then itle be well worth the purchase, such a wonderfully joyfull experience. Is this made by Ancel and his team too?

Ok so "no WiiU game will ever be 1080p" should read "no complex 3d WiiU game will ever be 1080p"

Rayman looks pretty lush so the question is how complex is too complex for 1080p. We need the opinion of a resident expert here methinks

As PaTaito said your all sounding like fanboys have to justify your purchases of something that probably worth near 200 than 300+.

I heard the Wii U processor is a close match to the Intel 80486.
