Yeah I've just ordered one of those, thanks.
How far away can you be from the Wii u with the gamepad?
What are the star codes for? Club Nintendo. Worth bothering with? Or only if I'm planning on buying a lot of games?

Mine only works about 12 foot away from the console, is obviously dependant on where the machine is and walls inbetween etc.
Can use mine in part of the kitchen and that's about it, must try it in the room directly above the living room still.

I've racked up about 13000 Star points in the last couple of years, this was after giving away thousands before then, and nothing has come up that I would be interested in really. Decent stuff does come up (and go out of stock very quickly) now and again, so unless you want to give the codes away or sell them for a couple of quid on ebay I would use them. You do also get points for eShop purchases now.

Truth be told I got one as I wanted to play some nice games like Mario, a bit fed up of fps games and dark settings. Just wanted a bit of sunshine in my games ha ha.

        Haha, I totally agree.
Nintendo to me is about those magical moments, that is what makes gaming so special, there is a simplicity and an innocence to Nintendo stuff that can't help but make you smile. The realism in games and graphics is taking the innocence in many of the titles these days, playing a new Mario game can't be anything but a magical world to escape in for an hour or two. Like being a kid again I guess?

Don't get me wrong, I like other stuff as well, just finished Last Of Us today, but generally I just find so much on the other machines....well.....depressing.

Mario 3D about to get opened, can't wait. Night!

Finally, SNES Zelda Link to the Past hits Wii U VC this Thursday. ?5.49.

This looks a promising puzzler too, called Rush, it's ?1.79 for a couple of weeks

I'll be buying LttP for sure. A little busy with other things right now but hopefully I can rinse it before my trip on Xmas Eve (where I will start my LttP2 sesh, and hopefully not feel Zelda'd out).

Bit pricy though especially when they gave it away for free on 3DS

When did they give it away for free? I got Minish Cap with the Ambassador's Programme but that was all.

I seriously can't give them enough money for LttP, I'm way under par as it stands considering I never picked up the original full-priced retail release.

LttP getting an eShop release is nice. Will probably give that a play before the new game.

LttP is 50Hz-only, according to GAF.

The Wii U really could do with another 30p Virtual Console promotion or an ambassador program... or anything to get excited about really.

Super Mario Bros. 3 as a free Christmas download would be nice.

I love my Wii U, I think it's the best console I've owned and the games join my choice SNES releases as unsellable but with all the disappointing sales news, the anaemic release calendar it just feels like it's getting to time for Nintendo to reward people who stuck with them like they did with 3DS.

If you love it then surely your reward is the enjoyment you get from it?

Well I'm a Nintendo fan, I've been there day one on every first-party Nintendo release since I bought a Wii U (the day they announced Wind Waker HD), I've bought 17 VC games the day they came out, all Pikmin 3 DLC and I even have pre-orders on Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. despite none having an EU release date.

But as a fan it's disheartening that no-one I know even knows what Wii U is until they play mine and everything you read online about Wii U is poor sales news or downright Wii U bashing like this:

It just feels like among fans "The Year of Luigi" and the monthly 30p VC promotion were things to get excited about and we could do with a Christmas promotion (They give away full games on 3DS, they gave away a VC game on Wii its's first Christmas). These things just rally the troops, It was a lift to the 3DS anyway.

I agree with Pikate that it would be a nice gesture for Nintendo to give away a few more bits to people who've bought the Wii U.

To me the release of Super Luigi U earlier this year was an indicator that Nintendo realised who the buyers of Wii Us have been so far - hardcore Nintendo fans. That's why they released a 'super player' version NSMBU instead of something more kid-oriented. I think, anyway.

As you say, they give away free stuff all the time to people who register new 3DS systems. Seems silly that the same isn't done for Wii U. The fans are the people who are keeping the system on life support right now.

They have a promotion in America at the moment giving something like 30% off all Mario VC games one week, 30% off all Zelda VC games another week etc.
Even that would go some way to help, it's something, but yes another bout of 30p games would be ideal.
