Most people are idiots with terrible taste anyway, just look at the state mainstream music and film are. Or look at MTV. Or TV in general.

In a completely different topic: If I would purchase a UK Wii U (I live in Finland), would it work with just a plug adapter to make the UK 3-pin plug fit in the European 2-pin socket we have here. I mean if I understand correctly, UK and Europe have the same voltage etc. so just a plug would do?

    Something like this:

People want 400 games to come out every week, whereas on Nintendo you get two a year. It's consumerism that is Nintendo's biggest enemy IMO.
      Kept you waiting, huh?

        That'd work Guts.

If the UK and Finland do have the same voltage, then that'll work. Do check though because I'm pretty sure the WiiU power brick isn't multivoltage.

It is multi voltage. You can use a JPN one over here with a shaving adapter.

Yeah I did some searching and found a helpful page on electrical systems on Wikitravel.

According to this it should be fine, just the UK plug is different (we have the German one here I believe) and needs an adapter.

Its the stubborn approach to tech, and naturally the risk of 3rd party isolation...

Thats nintendo's biggest problem if a brilliant game like SM3DW cant shift your consoles fast.

Yeah i agree with joe's consumerism comment, but its understandable given the amount of 3rd party support that both sony and microsoft enjoy.

F-Zero sells a lot less than Mario or Zelda. People don't seem to really like futuristic racers enough any more, which is presumably why Sony shut down Studio Liverpool.

Nintendo's games are on the whole immensely popular, but of course they need to sell the system first. The Wii U has suffered from major positioning and marketing issues. NSMBU was IMO a massive mistake as the key launch title.

You can see the thinking behind it:

                  - NSMB is one of our biggest franchises in terms of sales (if not the biggest, I'm unsure, I think Pok?mon might have it beaten)
                  - We can develop NSMB games quickly (hello level editor)
                  - We can use it as a stop gap while we develop a 3D Mario title, both to shore up the Wii U's lineup and to keep the bottom line ticking over after an expensive console launch

But in reality, it just made the Wii U look like a ripoff to parents who were probably already confused about the new console's status - is it an add on? Is it a product that is to be sold alongside the Wii, rather than a direct successor? Is it a handheld?

The Wii had a clear USP, with Wii Sports in the box and the Wiimotes clearly differentiating it from the Gamecube. But a lot of parents probably looked at NSMBU as an Xmas gift for their Wii-owning children, then were incensed to discover that they needed to spend ?300 on a new console in order to purchase a game which looked basically exactly the same as its predecessor on Wii. And you can see their point.

I'll be getting a Wii U in time (once I get a new car), but having had a SNES, N64, Cube and Wii, even I understand I buy one for the exclusives and not a lot else...

Curious fact: the UK actually switched to 230v back in 1993. Only found that out a few years ago. But yes, as long as the transformer brick is multi voltage, you'll be fine with a plug adapter.

Fair enough, but not much help to the average kid who's parents will only buy them the one console.

These are what make up the figures unfortunately.

Also i dont think in this day its really good enough to see a machine from a company as huge as nintendo as "only good for exclusives"...

SNES, N64(to a lesser extent thanks to cart use),Gamecube, were all technically up to enough of a standard that cross platform titles were no problem really...had nintendo taken this recent stand on tech back then we probably would have seen mario on an opposition console years ago.

I just get annoyed as they do so much right.

                        Didn't help the Cube though.

Neither did being last out the gate, lacking a killer launch title, having a "cute" look, lacking online play etc.

I certainly bought many 3rd party titles on gamecube, prince of persia was actually superior too...amongst a few others.

The fact is though that despite gamecube not exactly selling by the bucketload, 3rd party devs still put out decent crossplatform games, because it competed under the hood, and could clearly be done with little resources....this always helps, never hinders.

In terms of capturing market share that generation? Probably not.

The Gamecube still made a healthy profit though.

I've got myself a Wii u this week, will pick up a Xbox/ps4 in a month or so.
First impressions are it looks and feels great, cube and n64 did too.
Truth be told I got one as I wanted to play some nice games like Mario, a bit fed up of fps games and dark settings. Just wanted a bit of sunshine in my games ha ha.
Not even sure what the Wii u can do yet, hopefully someone will tell me all the great things about it.

Battery on the gamepad seems shocking though!!

You can't beat Nintendo for some nice bright colours!

Gamepad life seems to improve over time I fiound, though I did also buy this (mainly so the kids didn't trip over the charging lead).

That gives me over 8 hours per charge, normally I was getting 4 hours with a brightness setting of 4 out of 5.

There are a handful of Wii U demo's on the eShop you should give a whirl, and I'm finding the Miiverse really useful now I've actually started using it. Any questions fire away.
