You're missing the point completely, no one is saying someone would buy the Wii thinking it was a Wii U, or they would buy a Wii U game for their Wii.
The point is, when they look so similar, and the name just has a U on the end, which means absolutely nothing to anyone (I haven't got a ****in' clue what the U stands for even, Universal???) it is not good marketing.
Having very obvious differences in design makes it feel like a next gen console rather than a slightly updated one, which is what many think it is.
The fact the machine is no better in many respects as the 7 year old consoles that are about to be replaced doesn't help either, to many the Wii U is simply a slightly enhanced Wii, so there is not the mad desire to rush out and buy a Wii U.
If it had been a completely new design that would look funky under the TV and it had been called 'Wii HD' as we all know the general public like anything with HD blasted over it, I do think it would have sold far better.
I have loads of mates with young kids (teenagers I call young btw), and none of them seem fussed about the Wii U, even they just think of it as a slightly updated Wii, surely they are the ones Nintendo really need to want it, to crave it, to badger their parents for it, but they don't.
Don't get me wrong I love it, but I don't think it is has become a desirable product for most out there.
