I look forward to checking it out Uli my friend.

Caps why the big fuss ?;It's a launch title and they'll always be issues with frame rate or Res .
The fact is that reduce screen res or not Ryse : Son of Rome looks utterly stunning . COD MW never run at 720P native res , that didn't stop it looking more impressive than almost any 3rd party FPS made up until that point

No matter how powerful ps4 and Xbone are they still have laptop gfx cards in them. Look at the size of what even a ?100 pc gfx is. You'll only see 60fps true 1080p on driving games and 2d games I reckon.

Agreed, but I still don't get why people feel the need to compare a console to a PC - you know console is called a console for a reason . Sure PC offer better 3D, but that's always been the case since the birth of 3D cards really . These ones that go on about how they're playing 360 and PS3 ports on their PC at ultra high Res and 60 fps , I'm sure they're not doing with the PC card that was inside their PC at the time of the PS3 or 360 launches and that's the difference with consoles . People playing GTA 5 now on their PS3 will all have the same Gfx and sound no matter if they bought the PS3 on launch or yesterday with GTA 5 :That's the advantage and also, the disavantage of consoles

Well, that's not really true. My PC will play BF4 at 1080p 60fps using a gfx card that I bought nearly 2 years ago. However, the comparison still isn't fair because I'm at liberty to adjust all kinds of graphical flourishes in order to achieve that whereas console games are tied to decisions made by the developers. The fact remains that PS4 and XBox One are both using gfx cards that run at about half the performance of a ?100 PC card. The problem is expectations. It's all a compromise. My PC is massive and relatively noisy. Not something I'd have in a living room, and it costs much more than a PS4 too. We shouldn't expect these new consoles to perform like a PC can. I think the problem is that PS3 launched with a few games that did 60fps at 1080 so 7 years on we think that by now all games should run like that...

Here's the PS4 CPU and GPU:

              And here's a typical ?100 PC GPU:

and the typical enthusiast CPU with stock cooler:

Admittedly the PC parts have their cooling systems attached but the point is you can't just magically shrink that tech down and fit it inside a console.

XBox One and PS4 are often described as basically being PCs. A better description IMO is that they are basically laptops. Highly suped up, powerful, custom laptops but nevertheless they have laptop tech in them.

In a few years developers will hit the hardware and make them do amazing things that PC laptops can't but out the gate I think we're getting what we should have been expecting. The CPU and huge amounts of RAM should give us all the other things we've been lacking though and we're seeing that already with BF4 sporting full sized maps and 64 player support. It's all good and it's a huge step up from last gen IMO.

No difference in comparing the size of the GPU inside the XBox (original) or DC which were tiny compared to their PC based counterparts

Lets see in 5 years time , if you can play all the latest games at 1080p and 60 fps on that same card . How many here are using the same GFX card they had in their PC 7 years ago to play the latest 360 ports on the PC .. I'm betting not many

To me that is why its always be pointless and unfair to compare consoles to a PC .

Well we agree. It's pointless to compare because it's different tech. Plus I get what you're saying now and yes, try finding a game that looks as good as e.g. Last of us on a PC with 7 year old tech in it. I don't think you'll be able to. The problem remains though that people are disappointed that the Xbox One and PS4 versions of games don't look as good as their PC versions. The situation is worse this time around because people think that the new consoles *are* PCs so expect parity. Also, I'm imagining less differences between PC and console code bases this time around so shoddy PC ports should be less frequent meaning that for nearly all game the PC version will be better. If you like gaming at a desk ;-)

Well that's been the case since 3DFX came around and well in terms of 3D polygons, Screen Res PC's wiped the ass with the likes of Snes, Mega Drive but its was always poinltess to compare them. So I really don't get where these people are coming from at all. I never thought it was fair to even compare the Mega Drive or Snes to the Sharp X68000 myself

Again the XBox and DC were very much PC Tech in a console . But I wasn't that upset that I couldn't play my XBox or DC games with PC levels of screen Res or 60 fps tbh .

The DC had very little PC tech in it. The PowerVR graphics hardware eventually found its way to the PC in cut down form but that was it.

The forthcoming generation of consoles are a break from the traditional no expense spare systems we are used to receiving. And the platform holders seem less willing to take a loss on the hardware now as well making the prices look higher than previous generations.

While the PS4 and Xbox One look a bit lightweight on paper they do have several advantages over PCs. Loads of bandwidth, lightweight OS, plenty of RAM and unified memory architecture. They appear to be designed with efficiency in mind and should be able to utilize the available resources well.

It is also far to early to be judging rushed launch games on the new consoles to their PC counterparts. Once the developers get a bit more experience of the AMD SOCs then we will really see what the systems can do. Mind you that will be a couple of years from now given the time it takes to make games these days.

From what I have seen so far Ryse looks streets ahead of any PC game I have seen. And Forza looks tremendous as well.

Returning to Ryse, a 900p Render vs a 1080p render won't even be noticed by the vast majority. it's nowhere near as noticeable as a sub 720p render from last gen and as mentioned above, these aren't desktop PCs so the first batch of games don't typify what we'll see down the line.

Aren't the QTE just an 'optional ' finishing move and well repeative combos are a problem that any action game will have really

saying QTE's are optional in a game like this is like saying guns are optional in a shooting game the, e3 vid was nothing but QTE stuff

press rb to fire big cannon to destroy tower, press rb to advance, press rb to rally troops, press x to finish x20 ect ect the bit at the end of the demo where he destroys the tower had me thinking it would be nice if you had to actually do something to help the catapult team in that vid but its pretty much fight to a designated point then press a button.

Ahh but the OTE button icons have been replaced by coloured frames around the enemy. So when an enemy body part flashes yellow you should press the Y button! Does this not make you want to play it now? can you not see the added layer of depth there?
