That dash is a design catastrophe.

    Comment

Feel sorry for the folks tasked with making a single UI suitable for phone, tablet, laptop with touchscreen, pc with or without touchscreen and console on other side of room controlled by pad and or voice. An impossible task, as witnessed by anyone sho has used it. It does actually work quite well on a phone and I assume a tablet too but good lord, what a mess on PCs and Xbox.

Watch a video, It's very impressive seeing it in action. It's light years ahead of that sterile dated garbage Sony have used on the PS4.

I really like it... Like, really. It just makes sense.

I have seen it in action. It looks like a total cluster**** to me.

I also really like it, one of the best UI's I've seen.

It looks dreadful...its windows 8, which i have on my laptop and avoid the tablet esque features like the plague.

Its complication for the sake of it, and the stuff i'm hearing about the fail voice activation...

Microsoft's vision is very different. It has taken a broader view of the market perhaps not entirely compatible with the needs and wants of the core gamer. It is willing to make the trades on gaming power in order to potentially revolutionise the way we interact with entertainment in the living room - Microsoft is betting that once we've experienced it, we'll never be able to go back. It's a bold gamble, but the key issue is that much of this revolutionary functionality just isn't there right now. The price differential with PlayStation 4 clearly is.

There are some great ideas here, then, but we've had just a small glimpse of what the machine is capable of. Cool functions like resuming gameplay from standby are flaky, while the centrepiece of the media experience - full integration with live TV - just isn't there yet outside of Microsoft's home market. It's coming, but we have no idea when. The core of what's left, beyond some neat features, is very much a games machine: one whose capabilities are proven, but which remains considerably more expensive than PlayStation 4.
                  Also NOOOOooooo

I too actually quite like the UI, looks quite nice having lots of thing on screen at once. The only thing i wish you could change is the black background, makes it look to dark if you get me, would be nice to be able to change colours schemes like on W8 phones.

The UI looks horrid, but i watched the video with the voice commands are it did look great and has great features, BUT it's not ready yet at launch and im not sure i'd want to pay 80 quid more just for the pleasure. Im a gamer, not into ****ter, ****ebook or any of that nonsense just let me put a game in and play. Have fun with your new toys guys, but im getting a PS4, surprised?

full paragraph acording to euro-gamer theirs no way to play your own video files on the one, IVE searched the net and nothing had been announced about its video playback support it could be a feature coming later but yeah it looks like its in the same boat as the ps4 at launch.

As far as we can tell, there is no storage overview to tell you how much hard drive space remains or allow you to delete items in one centralised location. There also appears to be no direct access to save games, either - these and game DVR upload clips appear to be synced with the cloud. It's interesting that in what is the most ambitious console operating system ever produced, the user seems more remote than ever from content. In many ways, it's also more of a closed box, too - even more so than the Xbox 360. Just like the PlayStation 4, it's impossible to play your own video files, for example.

Yeah you still you need the disc in the console.
The original idea was install the disc and not need it but mandatory online checks, people were fearful of this DRM so they reversed the decision, now we need to keep discs in console to play.
                                Meh.
