Next-gen comes.....so what? All next gen negativity here please

I know this has been covered before on the forum but the subject came up in my mind again today. Although I'm aware there are many on the forum who're opting for either the Xbox One and/or the PS4 upon launch, how many of us are sticking with what the current gen has to offer atm/ for the year ahead?

Thinking back on the transitions between generations, PS1/Saturn to PS2/Dreamcast felt really significant. The jump to PS3/Xbox 360 was again a nice step up, albeit quicker (?) than the previous gen. Are we truly ready for the generations to be updated again or will any of us be sitting pretty by the likes of Lords of Shadow 2, Dark Souls 2, FFXIII Lightning Returns, Tales of Xillia 2, The Evil Within, Assassin's Creed Liberation HD, Thief, Blazblue: Chrono Phantasma and whatever else may be on the schedule?

Opinions welcome if you care and are waiting for things to warm up again in late Spring like myself to take the plunge with next-gen, or alternatively don't give a damn and are going to be there for both releases from launch day.

Fair enough, I'm pretty sure everything I'm buying for Xbox One in the next twelve months is on Xbox 360 anyway (Child of Light, Rayman Origins, Valiant Hearts, Destiny...). In addition to that Xbox 360 also has Ultra Street Fighter IV and South Park: The Stick of Truth that Xbox One doesn't so I'm starting to think I may just be an idiot going next-gen.

I will be sticking with PS3 for the future

I will be going down the PS4 route eventually due to the amount I have spent on PSN

But will wait for a future cheaper model

I'll be getting a PS4 on the Japanese launch, but games are games - the launch of the PS4 isn't going to prevent me from buying any PS3 game that I want.

It's not an either/or decision, unless you're desperate to sell your current hardware.

Playing Wii at the moment. There is absolutely no reason to upgrade to next gen at the moment. The games that work are marginally better in mainly visual areas. Plus I am picking through the PS3 back catalogue with games at crazy prices.

I am also not buying into the whole next-gen thing, PS3 has got more games queued up on it than I have time to play.

Ps4 when it launches here, just like shakey.

For it's the same this time as it was last time, the 360 etc felt like a tiny step forward with most of the visual jump provided by the arrival of HDTV rather than the consoles. It took time for the current gen machines to stretch their legs which was why I only had a 360 for so long. This time is the same exact I've played everything I want to on the current gen machines so unless I was fine with playing rapidly scarcer and watered down versions of what next gen will get the systems are done for. For anyone with a backlogue though it's worth holding off, there's some amazing current gen games that deserve to be played and still time to do so.

No PS4 or Xbox One for at least a year here. Got a nice backlog of PS3 titles to play, in addition to 3DS, DS, Vita and Wii U. Guess that includes Wii too.

                Mental amount of games!

Think I will wait until this time next year to jump onboard, all issues will be sorted then, prices come down etc etc.

That may change though if Gran Turismo 7 suddenly puts in an early appearance.

Same here...I bleet on & on about a lack of time to play games these days & my current backlog is monumental & although there are a couple of launch titles I'd like to have a go of nothing really grabs me.

                    I'll get a PS4 sometime next year.

More than happy with the quality of current gen so feel no real need to make this jump so soon I'm still not convinced the leap in quality is sufficient enough to get in early

                      DMC
                      Binary Domain (in the bank)
                      Gear of War: Judgement
                      Far Cry: Blood Dragon
                      The Puppeteer
                      Metro: Last Light
                      Need for Speed: Rivals

                      What a list!

Next gen machines might be out now but the next gen games are no where to be seen.......yet.

On a positive next gen note it might turn out to be one of the best E3's ever.

This thread is for me too.

I'm chuffed for the guys with new XBox Ones today and it's exciting times to be a gamer, but I'm unable to jump onboard any time soon.
Shinier graphics isn't enough to pull me in yet and I've unfinished business with the 360 and PS3.

                        • I have a pile of games I've yet start.
                        • A pile I've barely played.
                        • A load of PS+ downloads to work my way through, and I'm subscribed for about 2 years, so anything else that comes out!
                        • There's a load of PS3-exclusive games I've not played (Last of Us, Uncharted, LBP2, Journey, Heavy Rain, Killzone, Resistance, Yakuza, Infamous, GoW III, MGS 4, Valkyria Chronicles)
                        • There are several 360-exclusives too (GoW 2&3, Halo 4, Crackdown 2)
                        • A looooad of cross-platform titles (Lost Planet 3, Assassin's Creed, Bayonetta, etc)
                        • I haven't played about 8 out of our 10 "best of the gen" titles (Nier etc.)
                        • 2nd-hand games are going to get cheaper now.
                        • Most my friends who got a 360 have become dads since the launch and their gaming is reduced to sporadic FIFA sessions bi-monthly, so nobody I know "in real life" is getting one.
                        • EDF 2025 is coming out next February.
                        • The current consoles do all the multimedia things I ask (LoveFilm, YouTube).
                        • I don't have to shout at my telly as I have a Harmony remote.
                        • I fear the new generation is going to feature DLC and season passes more and more.

That's quite a list of reasons to stick around!

There are no New Gen titles I want to play as I have the prequels still to play and other than "It's nice to have new things", I can't think of a single reason for me to buy a new console.

It's a little sad that I don't feel the excitement I had when I got my launch day 360.

On the positive, side, I've dozens of great 360 and PS3 games yet to play

I've been on the sick since Monday and still haven't fired up the PS3

Seems televisin and movies are more important to me in my twilight years

I was always going to be waiting 12-18 months (if not 2 years) before investing in a PS4 (Don't really care for XB1 at present but its not impossible that this could change) but my PS3 & Wii backlog is taking the p1ss at this point - and that's not even counting my 360 (which I dare not switch on at this point for the barrage of updates that'll come my way, such is how long I've gone without switching it on).

My 3DS (and even my DS) backlog is looking large too. Combine all of those factors with games for those platforms that I still want to play and it looks like I'll be staying 7th gen for quite some time yet.

...all that said, my birthday is in Feb...and a PS4/Vita-2000 combo is looking attractive...and the Wii U just might be getting its act together...

What the feck have I become?

Yeah, not getting net-gen yet here. I would pickup a XBox One if the finances allowed but it ain't happening. Much like QC I have a pile of games to play and the freebies on XBL marketplace are stacking up too so going to be some time yet.
