Oh my god mega snore TA. We have lots of threads devoted to positivity about the new systems, which is great, but it would be nice to have somewhere on the forum where we can have a little cynicism about them without it launching into a huge flamewar about the relative merits of launch games over the last 20 odd years.

Yeah the Bone and the PS4 are cool. They have some games with fancy graphics. There's a lot that's lacking, too, because it's a launch. It being a launch does not preclude discussion of these shortcomings.

How about massive prices rises for games, which all publishers said there wouldn't be, check out these prices on PSN, http://www.computerandvideogames.com...vealed-for-uk/

Wow. ?63 for EA games. Just wow. Is there something extra with them? DLC or something?

Well I get a bit bored with the ones who have the most to say, aren't always the ones that go out and buy the Hardware and what's with this shinny new graphics ? - I recall people saying just the same on the 360 launch (same games just shinny graphics) and now that's a system that people here seem to love and use as no need to rush to upgrade to the next systems due the brilliant games on the console , for a bit of irony

All I'm saying is at a console launch games and systems will be rushed out , why people expect to be any different now to what its been with very single console launch in the past, I do not know . Wouldn't it be nice for a gaming board to look forward to new consoles rather than being so negative like EDGE magazine

            That's my issue though.

The 360 had a similar collection of launch titles that were sequels, but the whole experience was so brilliantly executed.
Everybody had the same console, joypads and headsets and within minutes I was online playing games with my friends and people from around the world.

PC gamers bang on about how awesome it is, but I love how easy it is to play games on a console - pop in the disc and go.

I'm not saying that updates don't happen on 360/PS3, but these 30 minute, 1 hour, or even 2 hour plus waits while the system downloads and updates the games seem like a step backwards.

Up and gaming within an hour, maybe?
No massive HDD-filling patches to incomplete hardware and games?

Paddy made a whole thread for those who aren't upgrading straight away to talk about why, and avoid negativity in the threads where people are getting new machines and are excited about it. Let's keep it that way? Common sense and historical records show that buying at launch is expensive and the launch titles filled with sub-optimal titles. No one's surprised but it's ok to be disappointed and to talk about that.

To clarify, I wasn't aiming my grumblings at any new console owners in particular and I thought this would be the best thread to keep my miserly, technophobic Luddite observations in where like-minded Neanderthals can moan "it's not like the good old days" together!

I too was really excited about the One launch and was constantly popping into the thread for updates, but my enthusiasm started fizzling out when, all day long, the only reports were thrilling tales of download bars. When did people 100% their downloads and start playing the completed games? 4pm?

It's not just that it's a launch blip, this is it forevermore. Download waits and updates to broken games.

I deliberated on how to phrase what I wanted to say all weekend, because I didn't want to upset anybody, especially when you've paid so much, but I just wanted to express my disappointment.

@QC This is EXACTLY the place to moan about the new consoles and all the problems they have. I also agree with you and am hoping desperately that the PS4 doesn't need such colossal patches. I have a 3.5Mbit connection and if KZ needs a 9 gig patch then I ain't playing it til Saturday night probably :-(

My disappointment lies not with the sadly-inevitable cavalcade of updates, downloads and bugs so much as with the initial range of available games.

There just wasn't anything there for me, and that's down to my tastes as much as anything else. I've become a lot pickier since the 360 launch. In the end it felt totally bizarre to drop ?400 on a PS4 with NFS or something else that's on PS3, when I'd much rather be playing Mario 3D World. Not that I'm actually buying a Wii U instead, but still. It was the principle!

That and the initial cutback on media features. PS4 doesn't support 3D BluRays or have an official remote, so I would still be using my PS3 for all BR/Netflix related stuff - which is a bit meh. Obviously both of those will be remedied with time though.

I feel your pain, I have 5Mb and I live in zone 2 London, it's a joke. If I were you I'd leave the console disconnected from the internet all evening and only connect it up before I went to bed in order to commence the patching.

Granted the downloads are a total pain but that's the only really bad part to me . Get over that and the games are some of the best I've ever played on a non Nintendo system launch . I think the system and its games are really good myself

I think it's frankly laughable that they've released these systems when the software isn't up to scratch. Talk of features "coming soon" makes me cringe.

                        Disgusting.

Did that comparison just get made?

What do you expect on a console launch ?
Mostly disappointment, 'transgen' transferred games with at least 1 tech demo being past off as a game. Hence my avoidance of any launch since Gamecube.

It's OK. We can let everybody else beta test the next gen for us.

Next-gen is here...I can still play the complete Metal Slug lineup thanks to PS Vita TV. I can play on the Victoria Line thanks to Vita too I guess.
                              Kept you waiting, huh?

Massively underwhelming for me tbh. If I'd actually forked out for the PS4 rather than having more than enough store credit to cover it, and paid full price for BF4 rather than $40 I would be annoyed. As it is, I'm non-plussed. I'm enjoying BF4 enough to warrant the expenditure but wouldn't have thought of buying the system until another couple of years down the line otherwise.
