Well, a PS3 controller is a Sony controller. The point is, when you plug one into a Windows PC Windows doesn't know what to do with it. Whose fault is that? There are loads of controllers for PCs. Each manufacturer either adheres to the HID protocol or they provide their own drivers. Sony aren't making DS3 controllers for PC gaming. They don't care. If you want to use a DS3 on Windows then you need to look to third party software I'm afraid. Microsoft make a controller called "Xbox 360 Controller For Windows" so you'd expect there to be a driver for that:

I used to use the PS3 Move directional controller on Windows using some 3rd party driver. Was great for playing MW, using that instead of WASD to move around.
