And the "Next Gen" is even worse than the last. 3DS has been pretty much the only ray of light in the current blandness of mediocrity.

I don't know. I turn 30 soon and it feels like there's very little offered on the AAA front any more. I'm still happy to play Mario World on the SNES though or old PC games for example, but I play maybe 1 hour a day, if that. Maybe I'll devote my time entirely to retro and indie games in the future.

There's been plenty out in recent years if you look, yes there are a lot of Fifa's and Call of duty's but games like, The Last of us, Dishonored, portal 2, and red dead redemption show how to do a good Game-world and how to do narrative on a big budget.

Indie stuff like the Stanley Parable, Thomas was alone, To the moon, Journey, Flower, Dear Ester and Bastion show that you can still do new and inventive things in games, even Ipad games like The Room, Super Brothers swords and sorcery or Telltales the walking dead have glued me to my seat until they where done and dusted showing that given the right game touch control's can be the right choice.

To say there is nothing new and exciting out there is very short sighted, theirs ton's out there and some very talented people putting it together to me you sound like someone who has just fallen out of love with there hobby and is trying to justify it by dismissing anything current

I've found it really beneficial to cut out 99% of games sites, podcasts and twitter in my life and spend more time playing the games I like.
Sounds awesome. I play my consoles on the same display as my computer and due to my thirst for information I find it a little difficult at times to choose to simply play a console instead of being on my PC, with the ability to access any piece of information I so desire. Has the negative effect of me buying stuff on a whim more often than I should, but it works nicely for learning consoles modification and stuff like that.

I was listening to some gaming podcasts that were alright but they'd always be talking about indie games or whatever, which I have no real interest in, therefore a waste of my time. Even as it stands though I don't care for the 'gaming scene'. Something to think about for sure.

When I'm at home I try not to read gaming or tech news. I might log onto the forum but that's about it.

Just makes it easier to actually get the games played. And it's more fun, too.

Third parties will be 1000 times more likely to support the machine if development becomes almost unified by the architecture of the hardware(see ps4/xbone).

Its pure stubborn arrogance stopping them..comments about how many failures nintendo can afford compounds the issue for me, put some funds into a proper machine and roll the bloody dice. The template for what a popular modern gaming machine is, is right there for them to see...and the fact that they can afford it many times more than sony, makes me very sad in terms of the roles both are playing.

Its like this weird stance they have taken where they are like screw 90% of the gaming world(the sheep), we want to sell games to people who have no appetite for anything but 4 mario's a year, the odd old ip revisit....a pitiful handful of VC titles(lacking n64 no less), and loads of tacky party games.

Here is a question for everyone...

Who would be happy with just nintendo hardware if they had produced something powerful, with decent online and all the 3rd party support that the others have?

For me personally, i wouldn't require any other console, possibly a ps4 if last guardian came out.

Like i've said many times over, they are their worst enemy...typical japanese giant.

            Definitely!

In fact I only have a Wii U, well along with a PS3 still.
That is all the room I have on the cabinet, so won't ever have more than that. I do like a decent racing game though and my 2D fighters, so I would like a PS4 at some point, but would have happily paid ?400 for a Uber powerful Nintendo machine.
The SNES was all about power, the N64 was all about power, the Wii U is a case of "I'll buy it because it is Nintendo, despite feeling like a machine that has been out for coming up to a decade!"

If Nintendo had released an uber powerful console I still don't think the sales would be there or the third party support. Nintendo's business model isn't revenue friendly enough hence the Wii's struggle with it despite the user base and gamers still wouldn't jump ship for ports. They need compelling third party exclusives, they only seem to get a handful of niche appeal ones instead. Maybe if said powerhouse was the first of its gen.

Trouble is, people said all these complaints after N64 and GC, then Wii came along and won by gathering new buyers rather than appealing to the old. Nintendo can't be counted out on that front as Sony and MS are missing that boat still. Nintendo missed it too this time though.

I have been thinking about this, I actually wish Nintendo would pull out of consoles now (not handheld, they still get that right) and just make software.

I would rather have a PS4 with Mario 3D, Donkey Kong, Pikmin and Zelda on it than I would a powerful Nintendo machine with just 3rd party titles on it and no Sony Exclusives.

They have had 30 pretty good years, but I haven't liked the hardware from Nintendo since the Wii anyway, so I think I might actually prefer it if Nintendo had to work with a regular controller rather than some silly wiimote or pad with a bloody great screen.

Dread and optimism. Nintendo have to have an amazing E3 this year - with lots of surprise announcements and releases before the end of the year.

I still want to get a Wii U but I'm definitely holding off until a proper price drop. I'm looking to pay ?150 for the premium bundle with a game.

If they did that they will slowly disappear into obscurity just as Sega have since they pulled out. TBH I think they are buggered whatever they do .. If they pull out completely they are screwed .. If they pull the plug on the WiiU they are screwed ... If they make another handheld anytime soon they are screwed. Even if they bought out an uber powerful console (power isn't everything) they still wouldn't get any sort of market share.

They won't go out of business any time soon either though so I really have no idea what'g going to happen .. All I do know is there are still excellent games on the WiiU and 3DS and thats all that matters to me currently

Nintendo isn't anything like Sega. Nintendo have massive amounts of money for one thing. Nintendo also still has talent to develop amazing games, unlike Sega which is a pale shadow of what it once was. Even if the Wii U turns out to be a complete flop, they are not screwed. It's capitalism, sometimes companies make profits, sometimes losses.

Quite. Wiiu is screwed. There is no escape. Nintendo are absolutely fine however.

Nintendo could pretty much dictate their price to Sony or MS for exclusive titles if they wished they would become the most powerful 3rd party ever (probably)

All doom and gloom too soon , with key AAA titles out this year Nintendo still have a chance turn things around just as the 3ds.
Need a strong E3 and I hope they attend and have a big press conference .
