So what's up with the info that the production of the current model of the Wii U Premium has been discontinued? Is Nintendo gearing up for a relaunch with a redesigned system?

I was thinking of getting a Wii U but I guess I'll wait for any news. It doesn't seem that units are being restocked very quickly out here, at least at the store I frequent. (That had great deals on systems but now they're out.)

MK8 sales are not cute at all. The reality is that people have been so desperately waiting for a new game that, they automatically run out and purchase anything new en masse. In two week's time, everyone will go back to asking why Nintendo haven't made a new Starfox, or where F-Zero is. However, it's ok because as you stated "Nintendo couldn't care in the slightest about such nonsense".

Watch Dogs - nobody will care about it in 2 weeks.

Just seems to be the way gaming is going right now. However, for Nintendo they don't have third party support on their machine so it is all the more easy to be critical of the performance of their hardware. Especially considering how the traditional kind of game that Nintendo make, along with their target audience, may not be part of the Nintendo ecosystem what with the advent of iOS and Android devices.

Certainly this burst of sales might seem good for the Wii U and it may have gone some way to putting Wii U systems in households but it isn't the kind of sensational sales you'd get from a GTA titles by any means.

Do you realise how many more people will join the naysayers once the MK8 novelty wears off, and how this will adversly affect Nintendo's business? I gather you don't.

Watch dogs outselling Mario Kart well is a given really, lots of publicity favorable reviews and its available on every format known to man including the Casio pocket calculator.

Nintendo just need Mario Kart 8 to sell about 1/10th of what MKWii thankfully. Nintendo games have a proven track record of selling strongly for years at a time rather than the usual chart titles front loaded sales so whilst I'm not expecting a single handed WiiU resurrection from it the game should ultimately hang around for a fair while and ultimately outsell many of this years titles despite the limited userbase. Can't underestimate just how huge a franchise Mario Kart is these days

i rebought a wiiu for MK8 and yes it was worth it. However i do agree with Joe. Once the MK8 flavour wears off there aint much more coming out for it, (maybe E3 will prove me wrong). There are only about 4 other games released that interest me (1 of which i have already owned first time around). i

so i'll probably resell again in the very near future unless there are some tasty announcements (starfox/f zero/ 1080/pilotwings etc). Please, please - no more mario for a while

its a lovely bit of kit - the gamepad is fantastic

I'm not expecting much to be honest. We're so far in that Nintendo clearly never had loads in the pipeline for the system. Even if they put loads into development after the poor sales it'd be later next year before any of it was ready. Give it a couple of months of them pimping Mario Kart and they'll go all out focusing on Smash Bros which the system will rely on this Xmas. The new Sonic, X and Bayonetta won't shift next to any hardware so they'll be waving the Mario flag furiously

Nintendo never have loads in the pipeline, and what they do takes an age anyway ..

Unless there is a load of games we haven't seen yet then its not going to change anytime soon. The golden rule is that if you haven't 'seen' a game yet then its at least 2 years away. So that's two years (2016) for 3D Mario and 3D Zelda assuming they even exist.

WiiU will be a dead format within a year or so regardless, I will still get what comes out though.
