Look, I get that you didn't like the PSP and I'm guessing now that was really the core point here. I didn't mean to push it beyond the points I thought were being made.

Let's just say we disagree on Sony getting out of the handheld market and leave it there.
I early adopted a Japanese PSP-1000 back in 2005. Loved it at first but it got underwhelming over time to the point that I was pretty much only using it for homebrew. So no, it's not that I don't like the PSP. I just feel that it wasn't as great as it could've been.

But yes, agree to disagree we shall.

Plus as a handheld for PSone and PSP games, its perfect for that. I do personally think its a handheld with a pretty decent catalogue of games.

Im still interested in purchasing one again but just waiting for a good deal to come round.
Care to list them? - not including psp games.

See, if the vita was backwards compatible with the psp (as in I didn't have to rebuy all my ****ing games and it took discs) I'd happily drop ?130 for one for the superior screen and audio.

I think that was a HUGE error by Sony. They've failed to capitalise on the ground they gained with the first psp.

        Persona 4 Golden
        Borderlands 2
        Wipeout
        Everybody's Golf
        EDF
        Little Big Planet
        Unchartered

Those are my favourites. Others seem to enjoy Hotline Miami, Olliolli and other indie games.

Granted my list isn't the most innovative, and there is the argument that there are a lot of ports, but most of my game time is on the move so it suits me perfectly.

So which sites are reporting this news?

            Quite a few. Here's one: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...et-aaa-on-vita

Apparently it came from one of their people on a blog comment. Hard to know if that represents the official position but they didn't do a thing to retract it.

              I love my Vita.

Granted, there isn't a huge amount of software compared to the DS systems - less shovelware is always good - but what there is, is great.

I can easily do a bit of Dragon's Crown on my break at work, or maybe a level or two on Unit 13. For short sessions it's perfect. I just wish there was more for it.

Vita is more like a ps4 accessory now.

The games reeleased for it have been ok, but some of the high profile stuff like bl2 has been clearly ported sloppily on a tight budget, and that pretty much makes it irrelevant. Its nothing more than an indie machine.

I think the initial choice of dropping its gpu memory from 256mb to 128mb was a poor one too.

I don't know enough about the technicalities to know what that gpu drop affected exactly but the fact that so many games can't actually render at the resolution of the screen the machine was supplied with is a fairly hefty black mark in my opinion. That does bug me and bugged me from the moment I opened up Uncharted at launch.

For me quite a decent list some of titles i am highly interested in are as follow

                    Uncharted Golden Abyss
                    Little Big Planet
                    Gravity
                    Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom3
                    Borderlands 2
                    Dragons Crown
                    Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD
                    Persona 4
                    Tearaway
                    Killzone
                    Minecraft (in August)

I think that is an excellent list, granted not too many exclusives but still great games for when on the move or away from the main console like when on holiday. Plus coupled with PS+ i think its a great console in its on right.

I agree they have made many mistakes with the format, the overly priced memory cards for one and what they done with PSP games wasn't the best move but in fairness they are not hugely expensive to buy.

Holy ****, I never realised that PSP has sold 80 MILLION units! That's freaking huge!

Dogg, without wishing to be pedantic, that links to a May 12 article.

I thought something had been said in the last 24 hours when I read this thread.

As far as I know that's what the original poster was referring to. If there is more recent news on the subject, I haven't heard it but with E3 maybe there is. Anyone else know?

Giving up because it didn't sell as much as the DS would be a world where every industry just has a single player. It is possible to be number two and be commercially viable. The Vita is an awesome machine and some games on it make any other handheld look crude by comparison. It could have been a strong contender. But it just seems like Sony didn't commit. Far from quitting, I think they should have pushed much harder to sell and to develop for their handhelds.
I don't agree the Vita makes others look crude at all. I find many Vita games look crude. They look like hi res PC games with detail turned off or jaggy as hell.

However, the best Vita games optimized for the system do look fantastic. I just don't think the machine has the power for the resolution of that screen. 480p OLED would have been immense.

I'm using the Vita as I used the PSP: few import games.
The Vita itself probably saw 10 to 20 hours of activity, and then got completely forgot in favour of the VitaTV; the VTV isn't getting much love either, as the games I'm interested in are few and far between.
As an import-only gamer (on the Vita, at least), I see that in Japan the platform is receiving its fair share of titles, but most are anime-inspired games and visual novels. However, even in Japan, the Vita shares important titles with other platforms, and if given the choice, I'll go for different platforms.
I won't say that the Vita is dead, but Sony in the west are not even trying to market the console.

It was huge in Japan. When I lived there in 06-08, the nearest Tsutaya had a section of new and preowned games as big as the DS; two large aisles. Dozens of my students had them, with Monster Hunter. Many of the games in those aisles were Japan only, I think.

It never had the same presence in the UK.
