The Remote Play being any kind of substitute for actual Vita games idea is lunacy. That is not delivering content in any shape or form. It's downgrading the Vita to a controller for other consoles, And fewer 1st party games, fewer than next to none which is where we're at now, yeah that sounds like none.

They should at least let people hack the firmware so we can run PS2 emulators on it.

Lame. I agree fully Dogg Thang. Hopefully it will continue to be a primary home of niche titles made for a Japanese audience.

I love mine but they should never have even made it.

I'd love to use mine to play all my SRW games on, but that's not going to happen.

Conversely, I was happy they made it but I'm sad it didn't succeed just on its own merits. It's a proper "core gamer" handheld - like it's a machine designed for the adult hardcore gaming audience, as opposed to the 3DS/DS family of machines which were always made with a broader appeal in mind, i.e. for adults, kids, everyone.

The Vita's lack of success depresses me. I really wish there were enough people out there to buy into that sort of machine.

I think there's a very good chance there were enough people to buy into it. Sony just did bugger all to sell it to them and then got cold feet almost as soon as it was released. We'll never know though because it wasn't given the chance.

That's my point. They made the machine that people like us wanted. It's just there aren't enough people like us! Sony really should have known this. The masses are happy with phone and Facebook games and have been since before vita launched. A real shame..obviously Sony's last handheld I'd say.

That's the thing; I disagree. I do think Sony could've pushed it more, but even so, I think there comes a point where you just have to accept that there isn't a large number of people that want a handheld console with twin-sticks and relatively powerful hardware, and have the disposable income and desire to buy such a device and a range of games.

People want to spend 400 quid on an iPad then be satiated with freemium crap.

You could well be right but we'd only know that for certain if the Vita had been marketed anywhere near as strongly as the iPad was.

I fully think there's a market it for such a device as Vita, its purely down to Sony's poor approach. With the PSP they allowed its momentum in the West to unwind by dialling back support and then with Vita failed to increase it again. The system was far too expensive mostly due to the stupid decision to exclude the memory card as standard. The 3DS made several similar mistakes but Nintendo's response was to be aggressive by hacking the price, free games for existing owners to build good will and word of mouth, pushing key games out for the important Xmas window and it worked. Sony has literally done nothing except reduce their manufacturing costs by making a slightly less impressive version. In a few years Nintendo will probably release the 4DS or whatever its called and it'll likely be just like the Vita in specs and they'll shift another 80m units

I feel like Sony got into handhelds to wipe Nintendo's profitable handheld arm out and when it didn't happen they gave up despite the sizeable market chunk they'd built for themselves. Even if they make a Vita successor, its over by this point, consumer trust in Sony handhelds must be nil

Exactly. Like the wiiU, you can't bring something out, give it a weird name (seriously how many people know vita is Latin let alone what it means) give it no marketing and expect it too sell itself.

Now if they had pushed the games like Tareaway, killzone mercs, soul sacrifice and uncharted clearly showing loads of gameplay then an only on vita message this might of been a different conversation.

I'll keep supporting the device for as long as is feasible, the day I play games on an iPad is the day I give up games for good.

I strangely still really fancy one, there's some nice looking Jpn titles out there & I really fancy Football Manager Handheld as well.

Might pick one up when they hit rock bottom if only for a few titles & then hope that someone works out how to hack the wazoo out of it.

Should have called it the Sony Dominator Extreme
