A huge UMD drive making the Vita 2x the size it is? That would have made it sell less, not more!

PSP games weren't even popular on the PSP, let alone a ?200 follow up.

            Yup ^

UMD did not seem like a popular format choice at all. I suspect it would have done much more harm than good putting a UMD drive on the Vita. One step off fitting it with a MiniDisc player.

It would have allowed the vita to have been backwards compatible with the psp. That seems to have been somewhat of a success for nintendo in the handheld market and considering it's only Sony's second handheld, a good move.

Worked out alright for the original PS2, xbox, gameboy advance, etc etc

The memory card prices did it no favours at all either. Saw one guy all excited in a store ready to buy one, asked for a 32gig mem card then when the price came up he put the whole lot back as he didn't want to pay that for what is essentially generic memory.

Should of gone with sd cards for the games and expanded memory.

Yeah, I think Sony really dropped the ball there. They must have known that for most people buying the machine, their main avenue of getting games would be PSN, and many of us would really want to just go for a 64gb card and be done with it.

How much are those cards now?

You can get a 64gig for roughly ?60 inc delivery on some sites which have been kindly listed by people in this thread a few pages back. For some reason however when I've gone to buy one the site either crashed or rejected my card details saying not available to uk residents, though people on here have purchased from said site at that price so it does work.

I've just been completing stuff then deleting it now.

That's fast approaching the price of the machine

?66 from VGP .. You wont get it much cheaper than that .> Strangely VGP don't do the 32GB version which will be the sweet spot for me ..

And that's the cheapest possible price. The rrp is like ?90 for the 64gb, which is the cost of a console. Total joke.

The price for the memory cards is a total disgrace the only reason they cost that much is because sony are greedy and want a stranglehold on card prices, i doubt we will see another new handheld from them now just cheaper & cheaper reworks of the vita. They messed up bigtime.

I have still yet to see one in person or even see anyone playing one.

I have only ever seen one person playing one...Asian dude on the bus once. I should have hit him up been like yo let's play EDF. Lol.

The memory card prices are insane. I paid ?50 for a 64GB card a friend picked up for me in Taiwan, before that I was just rolling with the 4GB one that came in my Value Pack launch unit. 4GB was so inadequate that it couldn't even store the updates for some games.

Realistically the Vita needed 16GB of built in storage, with optional expansion via memory card. Even then they should have been cheaper and more capacious from the start, especially when you consider the size of the games, the size of the updates, and the fact that the exclusively digitally delivered PS+ service is integral to what they're offering.
