Here’s a thing I found interesting mostly because it’s something I have felt about most Nintendo systems but would have said, aside from a couple of exceptions, was less relevant to the Switch. Last month, the top 10 physical Switch games were all Nintendo games. https://www.nintendolife.com/news/20...by_nintendo_us

One issue with previous systems, as far as I could see, is that if you publish a game on a Nintendo system, your biggest competitor was Nintendo themselves and that’s pretty steep competition and, in my view, made it less attractive to bring a game to a Nintendo system. You could see, for example, with something like the Gamecube that Nintendo games would top the charts in spite of a far reduced user base, because a higher percentage of system owners would buy the game and not others on the system. Whereas PS2 games were split more evenly and it would seem you’d have a greater chance it doing okay on a PS2 because you wouldn’t be buried by Sony themselves.

Cut to now and it feels like the Switch has far, far greater third party support and not as many big hitting Nintendo games, although I know of course that some like MK8 and Animal Crossing have done phenomenally well. And still, here are Nintendo dominating their own charts. We want more Nintendo games and I know I certainly want the third party support but I have always felt that one might cause a problem for the other.

I started playing Galaxy 2 for the first time ever recently, and mainly wondered how on earth they'd be able to carry across the Yoshi tongue flick control without a Wii remote. It's certainly a whole lot more crucial than simply pointing and waving around to hoover up Star Bits.

I doubt the Joycon would be anywhere near precise enough (World of Goo is a disaster), and tilting would be ridiculously unfit for purpose.

Maybe that's why they left it out?

I personally can't wait until Nintendo to fully embrace VR. Then we can get a Wii Remote v3.

I reckon the Wiimote and nunchuck is up there with the keyboard and mouse for gaming input. It just needs the lag sorting out.

I read people make Australian accounts to get the games sooner in the eShop, but how do they pay for the games? I know with my US account I have to buy gift cards (eBay, Amazon etc), but no luck finding Australian eShop cards :/

Are you guys gonna be playing through the 3D All-Star games in chronological order? I don’t think I ever got the full 120(?) stars in SM64. Can’t wait to dig into it again. Same for the other 2 games. Especially how now they should be a nice crisp resolution.

I saw you could mop up star bits in Mario Galaxy by simply touching the screen which is a nice erm touch.

I'm more tempted to leave it till last because it's the entry I've played the most so am least bothered about experiencing again. I'd have happily taken Galaxy 2 in its place. Galaxy tempts me most but I feel like Sunshine is probably the best place to start

Yeah, I'm going to play through them in order. I'm looking forward to the experience of going back through the evolution of 3D Mario over the course of a little over a decade.

Probably not on Friday though. Unless I can drag myself off Tony Hawk's. Which is looking somewhat unlikely

Yeah, I'm the same. In spite of knowing that Sunshine frustrates me in many places, I'll probably start there and move on to Galaxy. I love 64 but I've played it a lot and it's one I'm likely just to dip in and out of at this stage. And yeah, I really feel the absence of Galaxy 2.

I just hope Galaxy works well with the pro controller. The remote/nunchuk was used so perfectly that it is forever etched into my muscle memory for that game. It was such a relaxing controller to use.

Just read on Era that Super Mario 3D All-Stars has leaked online for those with CFW Switches to download and play now. As a result it has been discovered that Mario Galaxy and Sunshine run off a Wii/Gamecube Emulator that Nintendo has coded using standard Vulkan API. Hopefully this means tinkerers will be able to adapt it to run other games from the system.

Does that imply that they've done nothing to the games other than display them at a higher res?

Apparently there's some work but in effect they've done the same as the old All-Stars and it's a minimum effort job. It again raises questions as to why Galaxy 2 was skipped when by the looks it wouldn't have needed much to add to it.

They coloured in the original All-Stars. I'm happy with the crisper look. Would have been nice to have SM64 in wide-screen, but I'm happy with it.
