I think they could get away with £599 on the full fat model, if they have the launch titles to back it up. Skim the cream off the early adopters and drop the price in 12 months when MS's first party titles start appearing.

The harder wall gardened DE model they could dangle at £449 for XBSX equivalency (well minus the drive).

Sony won’t respond to Xbox pricing. They’ll have had a target price in mind when developing the system and probably won’t have much wiggle room. PlayStation is a big part of Sony’s profits but swallowing £50 per system is a serious amount of money that would ramp up the required attach rate to attain a profit per unit. Microsoft are probably getting their APU cheap than Sony as they’re also using it for cloud servers so will likely have ordered more. And I’d imagine they negotiated a better price on wafers too.
My guess is full fat PS5 will be £499 and the discless system £449.

Like I've said, the digital version means profit from every game sold. Sony and MS can take a hit there and make the cash back reasonably quickly.

              I wish there was a 1440p PS5 with a smaller SSD. :/

I really don't need native 4K for the living room, or bigger drives.

I think it'll be £499 for the full fat and £449 for the digital version. I would be pleasantly surprised if they went lower.

I also think they may mull over throwing in a free game or something to compete, rather than lower the console price. I know it comes with that Astro Bot packed in title but I think Sony may think about doing more.

It's still €400 for a PS4 Pro here... I'll be interested to see if those prices change after the PS5 hits.

PS2>PS3 proved that the support can vanish quickly if they go too high on price. They won't risk that and if they weren't going to respond to MS then all the long months of secrecy willy waving was for nothing and Sony would have announced everything already and assured Civud panic shareholders with squillions of preorders. Sony has a chance to recreate the XBO/PS4 launches here if they don't squander it but I'd imagine system price drops could be ruled out for numerous years as a result

                      £380.

                      £330 for the digital one.

That's what I'm hoping for, anyway.

Absolutely no way Sony will go below £400 for the digital edition, disk for £450 to match SeriesX.

I feel like £429.99 for the disc version and lots of Sony referring to the PS5 as the World's Most Advanced Console lots to nullify the Series X is practically a given minimum. It's way too easy to take a very, very small extra hit and lock that advantage down.

The Series S vs digital PS5 is the conundrum though. Pitch it at £349.99 or above and there's a risk of it looking like bad value, but likewise it could fuel perception that the Series S is the undesirable gimped bargain bucket SKU of the four next-gen options too.

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are launching this holiday, and GameStop wants to give you more ways to pay in case money is tight.

Inspired by Access, Gamestop in the US plans to open up multiple payment methods including layaway and rent to own for Series X but also for PS5. Could be interesting to see how many adopt the option as it could see retailers mitigate an advantage Series S/X has.

Layaway means paying up front before you get the system. At least with all access system you’ll have a console and loads of games right away.
