There's just been a big MH Rise Sunbreak 'digital event' on Capcom's Twitch.

There's some new monsters announced, a look at some snazzy new stuff (inc. new locales + town), but they've also confirmed the release date is the 30th of June. So far they've only talked about digital editions of the game, including a warning that even if you're not getting Sunbreak, the base game is due a 13gb update around the time of its release to support the changes.

If you've been putting off the base game, the good news is that they're adding defender / black belt gear (I think imminently) so that you can make quick work of things and be ready for the expansion.

I will of course be playing it this weekend but the barren style of the graphics is horrible.

I’ve been playing them this morning. Definitely not up to the same visual standard as the main game tracks. But still great nonetheless. The new ninja track is very messy and confusing and my first play of that was all over the place but I reckon it will fall into place with familiarity. The couple from Tour are completely new to me and I loved both of them right away. Really nice vibe to both of them. The others are all from older games and they’re fine and fun and play well but, yeah, it’s clear that they haven’t reworked them in the way they did the older tracks in the main game. Still, it’s eight more tracks and I’m already back to loving MK8.

Let's us hope and pray that Nintendo honour it by announcing MK9 and finally beginning to put an end to the MK8 era.

Obviously, this is Nintendo we're talking about - they suck at celebrating the anniversaries of their IPs, but hey.

You're only setting yourself up for disappointment hoping for that

I don't think we will see MK9 announced till after the DLC series is concluded. Probably in 2024 for release Xmas 2024, Deluxe edition to follow as a launch game for Switch 2 at Xmas 2025.

The countdown can then immediately begin to MK10 on Switch 3 in 2035!
