Digital Foundry OneX Vs XsS video.
They upgraded the oneX HDD to an external SSD to boost performance.

    tldw:
Bit of a tit-for-tat overall with OneX probably edging ahead when all is said and done. Surprising how well OneX holds its own. Admittedly as the new gen pushes on the OneX will be left behind, but I cant say I'm confident the XsS wouldn't as well.

Yep. Was apparent before launch that series s was a downgrade from Xbox one x bar an ssd.

Yep and was the reason I didn’t sell my OneX, still a capable unit i can set up in another room one day with an ssd.

That Digital Foundry video of One X versus Series S is a bit weird. Let’s pitch a £450 console aimed at 4K TVs versus a £249 console aimed at 1080p TVs. Funnily enough the One X wins on resolution metrics. But the Series S wins when it comes to performance with 60 fps options where no such thing exists on the One X version. Give me performance every time.

That took me well over 24 months of planning and I still had to buy a few cdkey discount cards along the way to bump it up.

The whole rewards thing is fantastic though if you can be bothered to game it every single day. I've partially paid for two consoles now and bought a wireless headset which I sold to recoup money I'd spent on the PS5. I'm now up £30 with my eye on the official wireless headset (£89)...

Yeah its an unfair analysis but it does answer a popular question... but to anyone debating the Series S as being a capable machine, stick on flight simulator...

Only problem now is the £5 vouchers you can gain run out after x month’s, i was going to save them all for a headset but thats not an option.

The New Year card boosted me nicely, I'm knocking 19,000 points again after only a handful of weeks

That's only if you've got auto-redeem on each month costing you 5,000pts... turn that off and you can still earn points indefinitely. The cost for £5 then goes back up to the standard 5850.

Whenever you convert the points to a gift card is when the 3 month expiry is triggered. I'm earning around £20-28 a month at the moment depending on the tasks/quests. I've also been in a beta where you earn extra points from the xbox app on mobile which can be up to another 125 points per day.

Saving your points and not redeeming them until you need them is.

what is the better thing to do, stack up £5 cards (cost me 36,000 for £25 and £5) or aim for 3month UGP (cost of 35,000) which i did last time and runs out middle of feb22, i'm still on 36,500 right now after getting into the xbox rewards app side of the points instead of just letting the edge app automate points on it's own on my pc.

So am i missing a trick to the £5-£25 vouchers? which seems likely.

My Game Pass Ultimate runs out in February. Has anyone renewed recently and can talk through the steps to get it cheaper? I did the £1 deal and loaded up on 2 years of XBL but is it right if I wait for it all to run out and just get XBL gold again I will get the offer to convert?

I get that free is better but once I have an Xbox I’ll absolutely be filling my boots with three years worth personally. The value is bonkers, even if you don’t use it all that much.

If you're just wanting to extend GPU (and not let it lapse), the best way using points as points is to buy a 3 month Gold sub for 15000, which will convert to 50 days GPU (I always get 51 for some reason). That's 300 points per day, whereas the GPU prices are closer to 400 points per day.

That doesn't answer your £5-£25 question though haha!

Honestly given the pricing on the MS store is full RRP its not really worth renewing or extending through there. What I tend to do is just use my points on hardware or games when there is a heavy discount on.

With the hardware I then just sell it on. Like I said further up I ordered the xbox wireless headset and sold that on ebay for £10 less than retail and just used that to fund other purchases.

For game pass I think the best methods still involve buying a live sub (if you've lapsed) and then converting it later into game pass, or buying game pass ultimate extensions from places like eneba or cdkeys at a discount.

I know some are still using a VPN and buying subs from Turkey and that works, which is really cheap given the volatility in the market there.
