If you've got any of the next gen consoles do yourself a favour and install this for a quick look.

    Very, very cool.

Downloading this now, on the strength of your recommendation… Will see what the fuss is all about when it finishes downloading…

The internet on a Friday evening is always painfully slow for me latley…

Glad you liked it ... It's impressive stuff.

Here's a bit about it from Eurogamer:

After teasing us with a pre-load earlier in the week, The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 experience has finally unl…

Unfortunately I missed out on playing P.T. so I'm glad I can participate in the collective blowing of minds.

Lots of moany comments on EG about inconsequential stuff but I was floored when I played it on PS5 last night.

This morning I tried it on my Series S and it's pretty stunning on that, too. I was eating breakfast but the game conveniently loaded an automatic shooting programme so I could just enjoy the ride.

Switching off the Matrix filter was transcendental.

Yeah I had enough time before bed last night to check it out running on the Series S.

It makes you realise just what that small box is capable of compared to last gen... it was bloody amazing.

It is of course all running at 30fps but as a tech demo of what can be done it's just fantastic.

It is staggering what they've achieved on consoles with it. It's worth mentioning though that other games will probably not look as good as this on these machines. It's running at 30 without combat AI, next gen animation systems etc. As soon as any more gameplay is put in, the fps will plunge. That's fine by me as I'm not into big graphics prestige games but I worry that some people might think this is the new standard.

It reminds me of that nanite demo running on PS5 with the single character running around. It's impressive to show off the world detail etc... but you're right, once other things need resources you're making sacrifices to make a game out of it.

That said, UE5 is still new and constantly being improved and obviously same goes for the consoles themselves. There is every chance we will still see some great games coming close to this benchmark with some trickery going on to achieve it.

Nanite is an impressive piece of technology, but right now I think it's more geared towards visualisation projects where visual complexity is more important than frames per second, and you might start from CAD models that translate to many, many polygons.
It'd be interesting to see how it performs down the line with a couple of incremental improvements to UE5 and more powerful systems; 1080p60 with Nanite and Lumens upscaled to 4K with DLSS or the likes could be the future we're heading to.

At the very beginning it is but as the camera cuts then it isn't, ... and all the flashback scenes to the film like where he is slumped over his desk for instance actually aren't the film and are all rebuilt in UE5 as well.

I understand Digital Foundry are going to do some deep analysis on it so I'm sure there's more but there are some clever cutaway replacements going on.

Yesterday, in a surprise announcement at The Game Awards, Epic Games revealed that The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience, a new playable Unreal Engine 5 technical demo, was available for everyone on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Created by members of the original “The Matrix”movie team including Lana Wachowski, James McTeigue, […]

Didn't realise The Coalition collaborated on this. Makes sense though given they've been using UE for donkeys and are knee deep into UE5.

The one in the mirror who says “I’m Keanu Reeves” looks real to me, but the grey tshirt Keanu looks and moves like CG.

The team behind this demo stated that there’s plenty of CPU time left over for all the stuff you need in a game. Impressive.

Already having visions of seeing the movie and saying stuff didn’t make a lick of sense and then people will tell me it was explained in the game.
