Discussing a world beyond Miyamoto
As far as game developing goes at Nintendo, all of his creations are in other hands and have been for years and years now: Koizumi & Motokura have succeeded him and Tezuka-san where Mario are concerned and Aonuma & Fujibayashi handle Zelda. Unless I'm mistaken, he just signs off on stuff or acts as a consultant/exec producer and has done so for a LONG time now.
Retirement seems like the highly logical endgame at this point. That won't make Nintendo without Miyamoto any less strange but it's hard to see what else is left for him in the industry.Last edited by Nu-Eclipse; 28-02-2023, 13:09.

....also worth noting that Miyamoto-san is pretty much the last of the old gang from Nintendo's original golden age.
Iwata, Yamauchi, Takeda, Uemura, Arakawa, Yokoi, Kotabe...most of his contemporaries are long gone.Last edited by Nu-Eclipse; 28-02-2023, 13:34.

So, something I just came to realise this morning.
There are no traditional 3D fighting games on the Switch (not a single one).
Not new games, no re-releases or remasters. There is not a single game on the Switch from Virtua Fighter, Tekken, Soul Calibur, Dead or Alive, even stuff like Bloody Roar. The closest thing is the Switch version of Samurai Shodown, which is technically 2D with 3D visuals, or perhaps Pokken, which is a weird hybrid fighter with very unorthodox characters.
Thought I'd mention it because it's unusual. I had assumed that the HD version of Soul Calibur II and Virtua Fighter 2 that are on the PS3 would be available, but they aren't.

It's a shame we don't see more Sega stuff get the Virtua Racing treatment.
What about Dragon Ball FighterZ? Although that's another 2.5 one.

I guess I just kinda figured with there being numerous titles digitally on PS3, those titles would've made their way to other platforms (such as Soul Calibur 2HD, Virtua Fighter 2 and Fighting Vipers).
It just surprises me that there are no titles of this genre. Not a single re-release of an old Tekken or something.

At least this retains some validation for keeping the PS2 and 360 handy.

It's a fun little read.
Personally I'm not worried that Miyamoto's remarkable contributions to Nintendo's creative DNA are going anywhere, even when the man himself is no longer able to contribute (and as Nu-Eclipse points out, he has long since transferred direct leadership duties on game dev).
