It was WiFi, the switch is Bluetooth.

Admittedly the reason is that the power consumption is much lower

        The Wavebird was RF.

I'd nip down the local wood yard and get a couple of bits and screw some little extra wings to the side of the unit and then put the dock on that. The dock is my least favourite part of the switch.

The Switch is the only console which requires you must stand it vertically (with enough room to slide the console in and out of the toast-rack, which means you need approximately 2x the height of the Switch in clearance, unlike the SNES/MD where you only pull the carts out maybe an inch).

I'm not having a go at Nintendo for this; it's just more that I need to resolve this and I'm trying to work out what to do.

I remember that beast! Had to take it out of my tv cabinet and put it on the floor in front of it

                You are correct!

Though the point still stands; the Wavebird's wireless method was cruder than Bluetooth, with higher power consumption (and in Googling to find this out, I've seen the suggestion that as the Wavebird's RF operates on a similar frequency to WiFi, if you use 4 of them on 4 different channels near some routers, they can interfere with the signal).

The biggest problem with the Joycon's connection, admittedly, is a Bluetooth thing. I don't know the engineering ins-and-outs but I know that Bluetooth can be blocked very easily by water; so if you put an aquarium between your phone and speaker, it'll block the signal. For the Switch, that manifests as the console tending to lose connection when someone walks between you and the console, because humans are mostly composed of water.

I know all that but they could have come up with something better. My bluetooth headphones stay connected to my phone when I go downstairs. Depends on the quality of the components.

Bluetooth is **** for gaming. It’s cheap though innit.

Must be an older Bluetooth standard chip they got on the cheap.

That's how you worship an idol though isn't it? Prostrate yourself before it, "we're not worthy" etc...

Outta nowhere, IGS Classic Arcade Collection! It's on the Japanese store for now but there's sensible money saying it'll appear on other stores very shortly.
